Twins reinstate pitchers Prielipp, Sands from IL

The Minnesota Twins announced Sunday that they have returned left-handed pitcher Connor Prielipp and right-handed pitcher Cole Sands from their rehab assignments and reinstated them from the 15-day injured list.

Prielipp, who was placed on the Injured List on July 9 with a left middle finger blister, made one start on rehab assignment for Triple-A St. Paul last Sunday vs. Louisville, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings, with no hits allowed, one walk and three strikeouts, throwing 32 pitches. Prior to landing on the IL, the lefty went 2-5 with a 5.00 ERA (66.2 IP, 37 ER), 25 walks and 71 strikeouts in 13 starts for the Twins this season. Prielipp is scheduled to make the start this afternoon against the Athletics at Target Field.

Sands, who was placed on the Injured List on May 2 with a right forearm strain, made six appearances on his most recent rehab stint, pitching 7.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts between the Florida Complex League Twins and Triple-A St. Paul. Prior to landing on the IL, Sands appeared in 12 games for the Twins, going 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA (11.2 IP, 6 ER), one save, three holds, four walks and 11 strikeouts.

To make room for Prielipp and Sands on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Jack Anderson to St. Paul and placed right-handed pitcher Mike Paredes on the 15-day Injured List with a left oblique strain (retroactive to July 23). Anderson, who was recalled on Tuesday, appeared in three games for Minnesota, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings with one save, one hit allowed, one walk and four strikeouts. Paredes, who suffered the injury prior to his scheduled start last night against the Athletics, appeared in nine games (5 starts) for the Twins, going 0-3 with a 4.72 ERA (34.1 IP, 18 ER), 13 walks and 19 strikeouts.
