NEW YORK -- The Yankees have launched plenty of home runs this season, but until Saturday, none of them had come back-to-back. That changed in the second inning, as Gary Sánchez and Aaron Hicks cracked a pair of successive drives off Athletics starter Andrew Triggs.
Sanchez opened the scoring with a rocket that struck the facing of the second deck in left field, tying Didi Gregorius and Aaron Judge for the team lead with his 10th homer. Hicks followed with a drive to right-center, his third of the season, that gave New York a 2-0 lead.
The Sanchez homer was hit with an exit velocity of 111.7 mph, traveling a projected 423 feet, per Statcast™. Hicks' came off the bat at 103.8 mph and traveled an estimated 404 feet.
