Sanchez, Torres on track for post-All-Star return

CLEVELAND -- As Gary Sanchez completed a round of batting practice and packed his bags to exit Progressive Field on Saturday afternoon, the Yankees moved closer to the likelihood of fielding what manager Aaron Boone sees as their ideal lineup shortly after the All-Star break.
On the disabled list since June 25 with a right groin strain, Sanchez is scheduled to catch seven innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, then travel back to Ohio with the RailRiders for their series at Toledo. Boone said the tentative plan is to have Sanchez behind the plate Friday against the Mets.
Additionally, infielder Gleyber Torres is moving closer to a Minor League rehab assignment. Torres has been sidelined since July 5 with a right hip strain, and Boone said the Yankees are targeting the July 23-25 series at Tropicana Field for his activation.
"I feel like we've had guys really step up in their absence," Boone said. "I think we've more than survived because of performances from the depths of our roster. Guys have routinely come in and stepped up. That's been the case with Gary down, that's been the case with Gleyber down."
Torres was selected as an American League All-Star and has been replaced on the roster by the Athletics' Jed Lowrie due to the injury. Boone said head athletic trainer Steve Donohue will accompany Torres to Washington, D.C., where they will continue working out. After the Midsummer Classic, Torres will fly to Tampa, Fla., and could play in Minor League games there.
"Those are two pretty dynamic players that hopefully we'll have for the bulk of the second half, and hopefully two guys that will add a lot of length to our lineup," Boone said.
