The Mariners’ farm already made waves this weekend when Colt Emerson was called up for his MLB debut on Sunday, but another top Seattle prospect is forcing attention toward himself and his red-hot bat.

Lazaro Montes homered in his third straight game for Double-A Arkansas on Sunday, helping drive a 9-5 win over Northwest Arkansas at Arvest Ballpark. It extended a five-game hitting streak for the outfielder and the M’s No. 4 prospect (MLB Pipeline’s No. 30 overall).

Montes’ seventh homer in May and 10th of the season came as part of a four-run top of the first inning for the Travelers. Montes followed a walk and a one-out double by pulling a rocket off the right-field foul pole, which traveled 433 feet and was 115 mph off the lefty’s bat in a left-on-left matchup.

The long ball was Montes’ only hit in five trips to the plate Sunday. It brought his season slash line to .243/.362/.529, while he’s currently first in the Seattle organization in slugging percentage and RBIs (29). The 21-year-old with 65-grade power is also tied for second in the organization with his 10 home runs.
