The Mariners are calling up their top prospect, shortstop , who was scratched from Sunday's Triple-A Tacoma lineup and is expected to join the team in Seattle, a source told MLB.com's Daniel Kramer. The team has not confirmed the news.

Emerson is ranked the No. 6 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list and would be making his big league debut at just 20 years old. He was taken by Seattle in the first round of the 2023 Draft with the 22nd overall pick out of John Glenn High School in Ohio.

In early April, the Mariners inked him to a $95 million extension that will take him through the 2033 season, with a club option for 2034, the biggest deal for a player yet to debut in the bigs.

Emerson had seven homers in 38 games at Triple-A this season, along with eight doubles, a triple and 26 RBIs.

Considered one of the best pure hitters in the Minors, Emerson combines a smooth left-handed swing and an advanced approach to be a very dangerous hitter. He finds the barrel consistently and can hit the ball hard with extra-base authority to all fields. He started tapping into his raw power more in 2025, with most of his over-the-fence thump coming to his pull side.

Questions about Emerson’s ability to stick at shortstop were loudly answered last year, with defensive metrics pointing to him playing above-average defense at the premium position.
