Marlins get OF prospect, send Dean to Cards

The Marlins acquired outfield prospect Diowill Burgos from the Cardinals on Tuesday in exchange for Austin Dean.

Burgos signed for $300,000 as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2017. The 18-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder split last season between the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League and Gulf Coast League.

In 58 total games for the DSL and GCL Cardinals, Burgos hit .316/.420/.579 with 11 home runs, 50 RBIs and a .999 OPS.

Dean slashed .225/.261/.404 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 64 games for the Marlins in 2019, his second season in the big leagues. The 26-year-old left fielder, a former top 30 prospect and the organization's '18 Minor League Player of the Year, was a .223 hitter with 10 home runs in 98 career games with Miami.
