PHILADELPHIA -- Griff McGarry's time with the Phillies has ended.
The Phillies traded the former prospect to the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for international bonus pool space and a player to be named or cash considerations.
McGarry, 26, ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the Phillies’ system in 2023, according to MLB Pipeline. He had great stuff -- his fastball touched 99 mph in 2022 -- but he could not throw enough strikes to reach the big leagues.
The Phillies left McGarry unprotected from the Rule 5 Draft in December. The Nationals selected him, but they returned him to the Phillies following Spring Training. He struck out six and walked five while allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings over six Grapefruit League outings with Washington.
McGarry had a 9.00 ERA in five appearances this season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, striking out four and walking seven in four innings.
The Phillies selected him in the fifth round of the 2021 Draft.
