Injury: Left glute strain
IL date: July 8 (10-day IL, retroactive July 6)
Expected return: Late July
Status: Injured the left glute during series in Washington over Fourth of July weekend. Exited the game for a pinch-runner. Was sidelined on July 7 as a precaution. Continued to act up, leading to IL placement. Began hitting in Pirate City on July 17. (Last updated: July 18)
OF Oneil Cruz
Injury: Left hand fourth and fifth metacarpal non-displaced fractures
IL date: June 10 (60-day IL, retroactive to June 8)
Expected return: End of July
Status: Cleared to begin gripping activities on June 22. No longer using cast for left hand. Began swinging in Bradenton, Fla., on July 7. Moved to 60-day IL on July 18 with no reported setback, per manager Don Kelly. (Last updated: July 18) More >>
SS Konnor Griffin
Injury: Torn left ring finger sagittal band
IL date: July 7 (transferred to 60-day IL on July 11)
Expected return: Early September
Status: Injured the finger on a diving play in Pittsburgh's game on July 5. After imaging, the injury is to the left hand ring finger sagittal band, and will sideline Griffin until at least September. He'll have a splint for six weeks. (Last updated: July 11) More >>
LHP Evan Sisk
Injury: Left elbow inflammation
IL date: July 4 (15-day IL, retroactive to July 1)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Sisk began experiencing some discomfort during the club's road trip through Philadelphia and D.C. Manager Don Kelly said the Pirates expect to learn more about the extent of the injury when they return home. Will need rest, no surgery. (Last updated: July 7)
1B Spencer Horwitz
Injury: Left hamstring strain
IL date: June 25 (10-day IL)
Expected return: Mid-July
Status: Removed from game June 24 with hamstring discomfort after running the bases on a double-play ball in the third inning. Diagnosed with strain after ultrasound and MRI. Began running progression in Bradenton, Fla., on July 7. (Last updated: July 7)
RHP Chris Devenski
Injury: Undisclosed illness
IL date: May 7 (transferred to 60-day IL on June 7)
Expected return: Maybe late July
Status: Transferred from 15-day IL to 60-day on June 7 to make room for infielder Davis Wendzel on the 40-man roster. Began side progression the first week of June. Expected to throw live batting practice first week of July. (Last updated: June 23)
