Suzuki offers hilarious BP impressions of Ballesteros, Swanson

Seiya Suzuki -- he of past comedy fame for moments like saying his nickname is “Justin Bieber” or when teammate Nick Madrigal gifted him a foul ball, only to have it stolen by then-third-base coach Willie Harris -- was back with his antics Monday in San Diego.

The Cubs took an early 5-3 lead over the Padres before a 9-7 loss, thanks to a home run from Suzuki and then the first big-league grand slam for scorching-hot rookie Moisés Ballesteros. Perhaps Suzuki had an inkling the big swing would come for Ballesteros.

Suzuki (a righty) did an over-the-top impression of Ballesteros’ unique left-handed swing, featuring a sizable leg kick with his hands held high, for teammates during pregame batting practice. Suzuki laughed it off afterward -- but he wasn’t quite done.

The slugger also took his shot at Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, who recognizably puts the bat on his shoulder and leans back a bit before digging into his stance. Swanson also tends to fall toward home plate after a swing and miss, which Suzuki displayed perfectly, before mocking Swanson’s wide-legged gait back toward the dugout.

This is nothing new for Suzuki. He had another spot-on impression, this time of fellow corner outfielder Ian Happ, back in 2024 and even did some more shadowing of Ballesteros earlier this year.

As the pregame smiles would suggest, vibes are pretty high right now for the 17-12 Cubs, whose three straight losses on a difficult road trip have only come after a 10-game winning streak. The same goes for Suzuki, who is batting .317/.419/.571 with five homers has picked up right where he left off from a career year in 2025.
