SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- For the second time in as many starts, D-backs right-hander Shelby Miller turned in an outstanding performance.
He struck out six and allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings in Thursday night's 3-1 win over the Cubs, hitting 99 mph.

"I feel good," Miller said. "My confidence is where it needs to be. I've still got some things I need to work on, stuff I need to stay true to and keep working. Do all the things I need to do in between starts to make myself better. Mentally, physically and my confidence is good. I'm going to stay that way."
Worth noting
Archie Bradley drew praise from manager Torey Lovullo after tossing three shutout innings Thursday afternoon in a 9-6 loss to the Padres.
"I know the second outing typically gets a little bit more productive for these guys and he threw the ball very, very well," Lovullo said. "He was aggressive with several pitches. He threw some key pitches in key moments to get back into counts. It was exactly what I know he had hoped for and it was exciting to watch from the side."
• Closer Fernando Rodney made his spring debut Thursday afternoon against the Padres and tossed a scoreless inning. He walked one and struck out one.
"He did a great job," Lovullo said. "It was his first outing and I was excited to see where he was going to be at. He was fantastic for a first appearance of the spring. He threw some really good secondary pitches and his fastball looked lively. I was real excited to see him."
• The D-backs agreed to terms on one-year deals with their 26 pre-arbitration players Thursday.
The players included: Jake Barrett, Silvino Bracho, Bradley, Enrique Burgos, Zack Godley, Tyler Jones, Matt Koch, Evan Marshall, Jimmy Sherfy, Braden Shipley, Anthony Banda, Andrew Chafin, Steve Hathaway, Robbie Ray, Oscar Hernández, Nick Ahmed, Brandon Drury, Jake Lamb, Domingo Leyba, Dawel Lugo, Ketel Marte, Jack Reinheimer, Ildemaro Vargas, Socrates Brito, Jeremy Hazelbaker and David Peralta.
