Vlad Jr., Cronenworth are Players of Week

Blue Jays star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth were named MLB's Players of the Week on Monday.
Guerrero's continued MVP-level play made him the American League Player of the Week, while Cronenworth's recent home run surge earned him National League Player of the Week honors.

Vlad Jr. homered in three consecutive games from Thursday through Saturday, bringing his season home run total to an MLB-best 26. He also added seven RBIs during the week and now has an MLB-best 66 on the year.
The leading Phase 1 vote-getter for the 2021 All-Star Game posted a .391/.481/.826 slash line for the week, with a 1.308 OPS that was second in the AL to Shohei Ohtani.

Cronenworth hit home runs in four consecutive games for San Diego to start the week, including in all three games of the Padres' sweep of the rival Dodgers.

The 27-year-old led the Majors with a 1.481 OPS for the week after hitting .391/.481/1.000. Cronenworth's 1.000 slugging percentage was also an MLB best, and his nine RBIs led the NL.
This is the third career Player of the Week Award for Vlad Jr. but his first of 2021. He last won in August 2019. Toronto's last winner was Lourdes Gurriel Jr. last September.
It's the first career Player of the Week Award for Cronenworth, who's the Padres' fourth winner this season. Fernando Tatis Jr., Joe Musgrove and Eric Hosmer have also been NL Players of the Week in 2021.
