Marlins announce activities surrounding the Fourth of July
The Miami Marlins today announced activities leading up to and surrounding the Fourth of July. Miami will take part in patriotic-themed events in the days leading up to our Nation's birthday as well as on the national holiday.
- Beginning Saturday, June 30, and continuing until July 4, a member of each branch of the military will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to each game.
o June 30 - US Coast Guard Sector Miami - FN Derrick Knox
o July 1 - US Southern Command - Staff Sergeant Peter Wright
o July 2 - Retired US Army Colonel Steve Williamson
o July 3 - US Coast Guard Base Miami Beach - SN Mary White
o July 4 - US Navy District - Miami
- On Monday, July 2, the Marlins will present a $10,000 check to United Way - Mission United during an in-game ceremony. Mission United helps ease the transition to civilian life and addresses the unique needs of veterans.
- Also on Monday, United States Army Sergeant Jose Blandon will be recognized for his service during the game as the TIKD Salute & Serve Monday Military honoree.
- On Tuesday, July 3, Marlins players will visit the Veterans Affair Medical Center (1201 NW 16 ST, Miami, FL, 33125) to deliver lunch and visit with veterans.
- Also on Tuesday, the Yuengling Lager for Heroes honoree, US Army Staff Sergeant Jessica Tabbert, will be recognized during the game.
- On Wednesday, July 4, the Marlins organization will host approximately 35 World War II, Vietnam, and Korean War veterans at Marlins Park for an Honor Flight reception. South Florida Honor Flight is an organization whose mission is to transport veterans to Washington, DC, to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. The veterans and their families will enjoy brunch in the DEX Diamond Club Lounge before being escorted to the field for a pregame ceremony.
- Also on Wednesday, the Marlins will donate $10,000 to Honor Flight during an in-game check presentation, to help transport America's veterans to Washington, DC. The Marlins will also host the re-enlistment ceremony of Army Sergeant Ashley Mitchell prior to the game.
