Dodgers sign 2020 National League MVP Freddie Freeman

LOS ANGELES –The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed infielder Freddie Freeman to a six-year contract, through the 2027 season.

Freeman, 32, joins the Dodgers after spending the last 12 with the Atlanta Braves. In 1565 games with the Braves, he slashed .295/.384/.509 with 271 homers and 941 RBI, while being named an All-Star five seasons (2013-14, 2018-19, 2021) and winning three Louisville Silver Slugger Awards (2019-21), one Rawlings Gold Glove (2018) and the 2020 National League Most Valuable Player Award. The Baseball Writers Association of America awarded him his first career MVP, receiving 28 of the 30 total first place votes and finishing ahead of teammate Mookie Betts. In his MVP campaign, he hit .341 (73-for-214) with 13 homers and 53 RBI in a shortened 60-game season. He led the Major Leagues in runs scored (51) and doubles (23), while finishing second in on-base percentage (.462), slugging (.640), OPS (1.102) and third in BA and total bases (137).

Last season, he hit .300 (180-for-695) with 31 homers and 83 RBI in 161 games while reaching the All-Star Game for the third consecutive season and finishing ninth in the National League MVP vote. It was his sixth Top10 NL MVP finish, as he finished fifth in 2013, sixth in 2016, fourth in 2018, eighth in 2019 and first in the National League MVP vote. He finished among the National League leaders in various categories, including plate appearances (1st, 695), runs (1st, 120), batting average (8th), on-base percentage (3rd, .393), games played (3rd, 159), hits (2nd, 180) and total bases (6th, 302).

In the postseason, he helped the Braves win their first championship since 1995, hitting a combined .304 (17-for-56) with five homers and 11 RBI. He recorded two of his five homers in the World Series against the Houston Astros and was named the Babe Ruth Award winner after the playoffs, which is given annually to the Major League baseball player with best performance in the postseason.

The Villa Park, CA native was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round (78th overall) out of the 2007 First Year Player Draft out of El Modera High School.
