Rangers announce 2024 Opening Day roster
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced several transactions to set the club’s 26-man Opening Day roster ahead of Thursday’s 11:00 a.m. CT deadline:
- 1B Jared Walsh and RHP José Ureña contracts selected from Round Rock (AAA).
- RHP Tyler Mahle placed on 60-day Injured List (rehab from right elbow surgery).
- 1B Nathaniel Lowe (right oblique strain) placed on 10-day Injured List, retroactive to March 25.
- RHP Jonathan Hernández (right lat strain), RHP Michael Lorenzen (right neck strain), and RHP Max Scherzer (rehab from back surgery) placed on 15-day Injured List, retroactive to March 25.
- RHP Zak Kent traded to Cleveland Guardians in exchange for international bonus pool money.
- INF/OF Jose Barrero assigned outright to Round Rock (AAA).
- RHP Grant Anderson, RHP Marc Church, and INF Justin Foscue optioned to Round Rock (AAA).
- INF Matt Duffy re-signed to a minor league contract and assigned to Round Rock (AAA).
- LHP Danny Duffy, C Andrew Knapp, RHP Austin Pruitt, RHP Adrian Sampson, and RHP Jesús Tinoco assigned to Round Rock (AAA).
- RHP Diego Castillo and RHP Jonathan Holder released.
The Rangers’ season opener is Thursday night at 6:39 p.m. CT against the Chicago Cubs at Globe Life Field. The first date Lowe would be eligible to be activated from the Injured List is April 4. The first date Hernández, Lorenzen, and Scherzer are eligible to be activated from the Injured List is April 9.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Tyler Mahle) on the 60-day Injured List.
