Club hires John Mozeliak as Baseball Operations Consultant, serving as Interim General Manager after dismissing Perry Minasian

ANAHEIM – The Angels announced today that the Club appointed John Mozeliak as Baseball Operations Consultant, serving as Interim General Manager after relieving Perry Minasian of his General Manager duties. In this new role, Mozeliak will oversee the day-to-day baseball operations for the Angels while refining a baseball operations strategy and assisting the organization in its search for a new General Manager. Today’s announcements were made by Club President Molly Jolly.

“Perry has been a valued leader who worked tirelessly over the last six years to strengthen our baseball operations department,” said Jolly. “I am grateful for his dedication, insight and many contributions to our organization.”

Mozeliak joins the Angels following a 30-year tenure with the Cardinals organization, including his final 18 seasons leading baseball operations. Under his guidance, St. Louis reached the postseason 10 times, won six N.L. Central Division titles, captured two National League pennants and won the 2011 World Series.

“John is one of the most accomplished and respected baseball executives with a proven track record of building a winning organization,” said Jolly. “For three decades, he constructed one of baseball’s most respected organizations, combining strong leadership with a commitment to player development and organizational excellence. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Angels and look forward to benefiting from his experience and perspective as we continue to shape the future of our organization.”

Mozeliak initially joined the Cardinals front office in 1996 as an assistant in the scouting department and quickly rose through the organization. He served as an Assistant Scouting Director, Scouting Director, Director of Baseball Operations, Assistant General Manager, General Manager and President of Baseball Operations. Throughout his career, he built one of the sport’s most premier player development systems, producing many franchise cornerstones and future Hall of Famers including three-time MVP Albert Pujols, 10-time All-Star Yadier Molina and three-time All-Star Adam Wainwright.

A Colorado native, Mozeliak began his career with the Colorado Rockies in 1993 where he worked in a variety of positions in baseball operations before moving to the Cardinals organization. Mozeliak lives in St. Louis with his wife, Julie, daughter, Allyson, and son, Will.

Minasian joined the Angels front office on Nov. 12, 2020 when he was named the 13th General Manager in Club history.

Information regarding a press availability with Angels President Molly Jolly and John Mozeliak will be sent in a subsequent advisory.
