Red Sox Announce Roster Moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez from the 60-Day Injured List.
  • Optioned catcher/first baseman Mickey Gasper to Triple-A Worcester.
  • Transferred outfielder Roman Anthony to the 60-Day Injured List.

Gonzalez, 29, began the season on the 60-Day Injured List recovering from left shoulder surgery. The right-handed hitter played in six rehab games between Double-A Portland (three games) and Worcester (three), making two starts at first base, two at second base, and two as the designated hitter. In 2025 for Boston, he set career highs in games (96), hits (96), runs scored (47), doubles (23), home runs (nine), and RBI (53). Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has hit .269 (200-for-744) with 44 doubles, seven triples, 20 home runs, and 109 RBI in 271 career Major League games with the White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox (2024-25).

Gasper, 30, has batted .243 (26-for-107) with five doubles, one triple, and seven RBI in 34 games for Boston this season, making 13 starts as the designated hitter, 12 as the catcher, and two at first base. The switch-hitter has also played in 28 games for Worcester, hitting .296 (32-for-108) with six doubles, six home runs, 27 RBI, 25 walks, and a .948 OPS. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the New Hampshire native has hit .186 (41-for-220) with two home runs and 18 RBI in 92 career Major League games for the Red Sox (2024, 2026) and Minnesota Twins (2025).

Anthony, 22, was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on May 7 (retroactive to May 5) with a right wrist sprain. The left-handed hitter has batted .229 (25-for-109) with five doubles, one triple, one home run, and five RBI in 30 games this season. Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has hit .273 (100-for-366) with 60 runs scored, 23 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 37 RBI, 60 walks, and an .804 OPS in 101 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2025-26).
