Red Sox sign first-round Draft pick Triston Casas

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today signed 2018 June Draft first-round selection Triston Casas, an 18-year-old third baseman out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla. The club also reached agreements with seven additional draft selections: right-handed pitcher Durbin Feltman (3rd round), outfielder Devlin Granberg (6th round), second baseman Jarren Duran (7th round), left-handed pitcher Brian Brown (9th round), second baseman Grant Williams (10th round), right-handed pitcher Andrew Politi (15th round), and second baseman Jonathan Ortega (19th round).
Vice President of Amateur Scouting Mike Rikard made the announcement.
Casas, who was the 26th overall selection in the June Draft, will report to the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox. The other seven signees will report to Short-A Lowell.
Casas, 18, was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 25 prospect available in this year's draft. The left-handed hitter played 29 games for American Heritage this season, batting .385 (30-for-78) with a .545 on-base percentage, an .884 slugging percentage, seven home runs, six doubles, six triples, 31 runs scored, and 35 RBI. A three-time gold medalist with USA Baseball, Casas was given the organization's 2017 Richard W. "Dick" Case Award, presented annually to the program's top player. He led the national U-18 team to its fourth consecutive world championship title in 2017, earning tournament MVP honors with three home runs and 13 RBI, both leading the tournament field.
