Focusing on wellness challenges that prevent children from excelling in school and recreational activity, the Miami Marlins Foundation addresses food insecurity, promotes fitness, and healthy eating.
Miami Marlins Home Plate Meals Food Pantry
In an effort to help alleviate child hunger through the provision of food to children and their families, the Miami Marlins Foundation and Feeding South Florida are partnering to create the Miami Marlins Home Plate Meals program.
As part of this program and the generous contrition of Martin Prado, we are building pantries in two neighborhood schools. School Pantries provide a variety of readily accessible food to low-income students and their families, in a safe environment with which they're already familiar. The pantry has a focus on providing not only pantry staples (rice, canned goods, etc.) but also fresh fruits and vegetables as well through a monthly farmer's market style distribution.
Home Plate Meals Monthly Farmer's Market Distribution
The Miami Marlins Foundation will host a monthly farmer's market style food distribution in one of the neighborhoods surrounding Marlins Park.
Home Plate Meals Thanksgiving Distribution
The Miami Marlins Foundation hosts an annual Thanksgiving Distribution presented by Tito's Handmade Vodka at Marlins Park. Marlins CEO, Derek Jeter is joined by Marlins players, Marlins front office, community leaders, and Tito's volunteers to donate one thousand Thanksgiving meals to pre-selected families in our local neighborhood. Each family receives a Thanksgiving bag which includes a 10-pound turkey and fixings that include stuffing, cranberry sauce, rice, pasta, canned tomatoes, fresh sweet potatoes, fresh corn, fresh zucchini and fresh squash.
During the Thanksgiving Distribution, we serve one thousand pre-selected low-income families in our local neighborhood that may not otherwise enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
