"El Mutante" stuck the landing.

Leo De Vries, whose nickname translates to "The Mutant," bolstered a scorching weekend with his first two home runs of the season on Sunday. It was the fifth career multihomer game for MLB's No. 4 prospect.

In the opening frame, hitting out of the two-hole in Double-A Midland's 5-1 win over Frisco, De Vries clubbed the first pitch he saw from Rangers No. 7 prospect David Davalillo 410 feet off the batter’s eye in right-center field.

The switch-hitting shortstop also tagged his second homer of the game to right-center from the left side, lofting a 398-foot tater in the ninth off righty Janser Lara into the Lazy River at Riders Field.

The long ball capped a second consecutive three-hit performance for De Vries. The 19-year-old shortstop entered the day with only one extra-base hit -- a double on Saturday -- through his first eight games of the season.

De Vries boosted his slash line to .333/.429/.528 in the process. The top Athletics prospect flipped the switch on his season offensively after entering Saturday with a .627 OPS.

"The biggest thing for Leo is to get in the weight room and really put the work in to add the muscle," A's manager Mark Kotsay told MLB.com during Spring Training. "We can all add weight, but it has to be good weight, and it has to be a strength component that he can maintain for 140 games or more. I think that’s what Leo recognized through our meeting yesterday."

De Vries, traded by the Padres for Mason Miller last season, could ensure the win-win trade in the near future. The budding star is projected to debut in The Show later this season, but whenever his opportunity arises in the big leagues, expect El Mutante to put on a show.
