6-foot-9 Draft prospect hits 100 mph during 20-strikeout no-hitter

There’s video-game numbers, then there’s what Brody Bumila did Saturday night.

The No. 22 Draft prospect put on a clinic for Bishop Feehan (Mass.) HS, throwing a seven-inning no-hitter for the Shamrocks … while striking out 20 batters. No, that isn’t a typo.

The 20 strikeouts broke a 60-year-old school record, a feat achieved thanks in large part to a triple-digit fastball that will likely have Major League front offices dreaming come July.

July 11-12:

Bumila worked in a changeup to keep the Moses Brown Quakers guessing, although they did tag him for his first run of the season. The lefty plunked the first batter of the game, who stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball. So yes, Bumila is still blemish-free in the earned run category.

One look at Bumila, and it’s easy to see where he gets his power. With a 6-foot-9 frame, he creates 19-20 inches of induced vertical break on his fastball, which would already put him near the top of MLB leaderboards. He is up to an astounding 69 strikeouts in just 27 innings pitched this spring.

The last big left-handed pitching prospect to come out of Massachusetts was Thomas White (MIA No. 1/MLB No. 12), who went 35th overall in 2023. Many in the industry expect Bumila to go off the board before then -- he’s getting plenty of buzz in MLB Pipeline's first mock draft of the season.

A two-sport athlete, Bumila has already led the Shamrocks to a state championship on the basketball court this year. But a 20-strikeout no-hitter? That feels pretty difficult to top.
