CINCINNATI -- For the first time in his Major League career, Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday after being diagnosed with a right hamstring strain.
To replace De La Cruz, No. 3 Reds prospect (No. 98 overall) Edwin Arroyo was recalled from Triple-A Louisville.
De La Cruz, 24, was initially optimistic that he avoided something serious after leaving Sunday's 6-4 win vs. the Braves in the fifth inning. De La Cruz had to stop at first base on a hit that should've gone for extra bases after feeling tightness in his hamstring.
A two-time All-Star, De La Cruz had a streak of 276 consecutive games played.
In 58 games this season, De La Cruz is batting .280 with an .855 OPS while tied with Sal Stewart for the team lead in home runs (12), RBIs (37) and stolen bases (10).
Arroyo, 22, is batting .323 with a .945 OPS, 11 home runs and 34 RBIs in 53 games for Louisville this season. He is considered to have a superb glove, while his hitting has stepped up in 2026.
