Why wait? Mariners' Montes has already notched his third straight season with at least 20 HRs

Lazaro Montes joined elite company with one swing Sunday.

MLB's No. 27 prospect clubbed his 20th home run of the season in Double-A Arkansas' 12-7 victory over rival Northwest Arkansas at Dickey-Stephens Park. The eighth-inning, two-run shot clinched a third consecutive season of at least 20 roundtrippers for the Mariners slugger, who will turn 22 in October.

The last two other Minor Leaguers age 21 or younger to accomplish the feat were two equally big bats -- Orelvis Martinez (2021-23) and Deyvison De Los Santos (2022-24).

In his final at-bat of the weekend, Montes took a first-pitch ball before lofting his homer to right-center field off Dennis Colleran Jr. (KC No. 23). It was the 6-foot-5, 210-pound lefty’s lone knock of the afternoon.

Across the past three seasons, Montes has amassed 73 total homers, hitting his most (32) so far over a career-high 131 games in 2025. In 64 contests at Double-A last season, he tagged 14 roundtrippers. This season, the 65-grade power hitter has 20 through 61 games.
