At 6-feet-5 and 210 pounds, Lazaro Montes probably personifies a prototypical power hitter. And he's been playing that part to perfection.
Seattle's No. 4 prospect slugged a pair of solo homers -- giving him three in his past four games -- to propel Double-A Arkansas past Corpus Christi, 9-8, in a back-and-forth contest on Tuesday night at Whataburger Field.
The second multihomer game of the season and the 12th of Montes' career upped his long ball total to 14, more than any player in the Mariners' organization -- one more than big leaguer Julio Rodríguez.

MLB's No. 29 prospect kicked off Arkansas' rally from an early deficit by taking a hanging breaking ball off Jackson Nezuh (HOU No. 14) over the fence in right-center field in the second inning. Montes took the right-hander deep again in the fourth, slugging an 0-2 pitch to right for a no-doubter.
Multihomer performances have become anything but a rare occurrence for the 21-year-old. Montes left the yard more than once three times in 2025, when he clubbed a career-high 32 homers. His second such performance this year came exactly one month after the Cuba-born outfielder hammered three jacks.

Montes has turned up the power after a relatively slow start to the season. After going deep just three times in 77 April at-bats, the lefty-swinging slugger has averaged a homer every 9.4 at-bats since May 1, reaching the seats 11 times in 103 at-bats.
Montes' monthlong power surge has vaulted him to the upper reaches of the Texas League leaderboard. Only Amarillo's Manuel Pena (AZ) has more homers (21).
Signed out of Cuba in 2022, Montes arrived in professional baseball with a reputation for possessing some of the loudest raw power in the international class. Since making his pro debut that same year, he's done little to disavow anyone of that notion.
Montes homered 10 times in 55 games in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League and increasingly has shown off that power potential, finishing last year's campaign with a career-high 32 long balls..
