Left-hander Noah Schultz, sidelined since May 26 with right knee patellar tendinitis, could be nearing his return.
The White Sox No. 3 prospect made his second rehab appearance on Sunday with Triple-A Charlotte, throwing 57 pitches (38 strikes) over 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, issued a walk and struck out four in a 5-0 win over Buffalo.
Prior to the White Sox June 19 game against the Tigers, manager Will Venable said that Schultz was likely to require at least one more rehab outing following Sunday's start before returning to a very thin White Sox rotation. Entering Sunday, Chicago had a 4.59 starter ERA, tied for 12th in the American League.
In eight starts for the White Sox this season, Schultz is 2-4 with a 5.82 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 1.50 K/BB (33 strikeouts, 22 walks).
