SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers’ farm system has taken some hits over the last year due to a number of trades to improve the big league club. But that doesn’t mean Texas doesn’t still have a ton of talent throughout the Minors.
That talent will be on display in the third-annual Spring Breakout game later this month.
Here’s how to prepare for the event:
What is Spring Breakout?
In 2026, MLB Spring Breakout will again be a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future -- the current stars of Minor League Baseball – in 16 exhibition games played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects. The third edition will be held from March 19-22 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training.
In 2027, Spring Breakout will be expanded into a single-elimination tournament format, with champions being crowned in both the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.
When is the Rangers game?
The Rangers’ prospect squad will play the Royals on March 20 at Surprise Stadium at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MST.

How can I tune in?
Notable position players
The Rangers’ most exciting prospect, Sebastian Walcott, is down following UCL surgery, but the club has no shortage of interesting young prospects.
Utility infielder Cam Cauley has impressed manager Skip Schumaker and staff in big league camp this spring. He’s one of the Rangers’ highest-ranked position players behind Walcott and could make an impact on the big league club as soon as this summer.
Some recent MLB Draft picks like Josh Owens (2025 third-rounder), Malcolm Moore (2024 first-rounder), Dylan Dreiling (2024 second-rounder) and Jack Wheeler (2025 sixth-rounder) are all expected to participate as well.
Notable pitchers
Pitching development has been a strength of the Rangers during the Chris Young era, with Cody Bradford, Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker becoming big league contributors over the last few years. And while a number of pitching pitchers have been traded away in the last six months, there is still a wealth of talent in the system.
Right-hander Caden Scarborough is expected to be available after having offseason surgery for a malignant melanoma.
2025 second-rounder A.J. Russell will be one of the highlights as he looks for his professional debut after camp breaks in a few weeks.
Roster details
Spring Breakout rosters are being constructed in two phases in 2026. Clubs initially submit a preliminary 40-man player pool on Thursday, March 5, which will then be pared down to the official 23-27 man rosters on March 18. The preliminary rosters were assembled using MLB Pipeline's Top 30 Prospects lists plus additional prospects submitted by the club.
