PITTSBURGH -- Termarr Johnson, the Pirates' 2022 first-round Draft pick, will miss the rest of 2026 with a torn left ACL and LCL. He’ll undergo surgery next Thursday and be examined in Dallas by Dr. Dan Cooper. Johnson injured the knee while lunging for first base in the top of the fifth inning last Saturday while playing for Triple-A Indianapolis.
Johnson was carted off the field with his leg in an air cast and headed for an MRI later that night. After multiple tests spanning a few days, Johnson was diagnosed with a torn ACL.
Pittsburgh selected Johnson No. 4 overall in the 2022 Draft out of Mays High School in Atlanta. He’s climbed his way slowly through the organization, developing in Triple-A most of 2026 while leading off and batting second, producing a .199/.336/.319 slash line.

“I feel like you don't necessarily learn how to be persistent unless you have situations where you need to be persistent, both on and off the field,” Johnson told MLB.com in June. “... Obviously, as a human, you only get to do this thing once. And I desire to do it right. I desire to do it at a high level every single day.”
Johnson was placed on the 7-day injured list shortly after the injury on Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday. He’s the Pirates' No. 19 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and is still just 22 years old.
