Jake Burger and his wife, Ashlyn, founded ‘The Burger Family Foundation’ in March of 2025. Inspired by the birth of their daughter, Penelope, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome, the foundation aims to support and celebrate families like the Burgers’ in meaningful ways. Through direct financial assistance, therapy, community, and the healing power of ranch life, The Burger Family Foundation is already building spaces that foster hope, purpose, and belonging. As of this year, Jake is the only active Major League Baseball player to have a child diagnosed with Down syndrome.
The financial support wing of the foundation, Pens Pearls, provides direct assistance to families navigating the unique joys and challenges of raising a child with a disability. The family is also working towards opening ‘The Lucky Ranch’, which will be a haven for disabled individuals and their families.
This November at First Horizon Park in Nashville, The Burger Family Foundation hosted the first iteration of ‘The Lucky Classic presented by BRUCE BOLT,’ a celebrity softball game and home run derby which raised over $250,000 in support of the Burgers’ mission to empower families with disabilities through financial assistance and community programs. The event featured a star-studded roster, including MLB standouts Corey Seager, Jacob deGrom, and Bryce Harper, as well as country music stars Russell Dickerson and Jordan Davis.
In April of 2025, Jake and Ashlyn partnered with the Texas Rangers and their exclusive concessionaire, Delaware North Sportservice, to ensure that a portion of the proceeds from every Jake Burger jersey sold at Globe Life Field during the 2025 season was donated to The Burger Family Foundation. This initiative will remain in place for the entirety of Burger’s tenure with the Rangers and has generated over $5,700 in contributions thus far.
The Burgers also announced that day a partnership with the Rangers to host ‘Down Syndrome Day’ at Globe Life Field on August 10, 2025. Fans who purchased tickets to that day’s home game against the Philadelphia Phillies received a custom ‘Down Syndrome Awareness Day’ cap provided by The Burger Family Foundation.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation partnered with the Burgers to support the event, with proceeds totaling $15,454 benefiting a local charity that assists families with financial aid. Over 1,650 tickets were sold, and The Burger Foundation raised more than $7,000 in cap and t-shirt sales to further their mission.
Throughout the 2025 season, Jake dedicated time on road trips to visit ‘GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center’ locations across the country. The nationwide tour featured appearances by several of Jake’s Rangers teammates and other Major League players.
