Before being drafted as a position player with Miami, had always considered himself a better pitcher than hitter...had an impressive senior year at the plate, and the Marlins drafted him as a first baseman...Sean said, "If I’m being completely honest, I was a better pitcher my whole life and for whatever reason I just kind of ran into a really good season my senior year of high school...I can’t say I didn’t work as hard as I could to try and figure it out, but hitting is hard, man." Reynolds was a pitcher during his amateur career and got back into it during the COVID-stricken season...linked up with former teammate Nick Fortes who caught his throwing sessions.

Split the 2023 campaign between three Minor League clubs and was a Trade Deadline acquisition by the Padres from Miami on Aug. 1...Between Double-A Pensacola, Triple-A Jacksonville and Triple-A El Paso, made 55 app. (all in relief) with a combined 5.43 ERA (39 ER, 64.2 IP) and a .246 opponent average...Began the season with Pensacola and he went 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA (eight ER, 30.2 IP) in 24 relief appearances before earning his promotion to Triple-A on June 8. Posted a 3.50 ERA (7 ER, 18.0 IP) in 14 appearances at the Triple-A level for Jacksonville...Selected to MIA's ML club on July 7 but was optioned back to Triple-A on July 10 without having made his MLB debut...At the 2023 Trade Deadline, was acquired by San Diego from Miami with Garrett Cooper for Ryan Weathers. Upon joining SD, was assigned to El Paso and posted a 13.50 ERA (24 ER, 16.0 IP) with a .356 opponent average from Aug. 2 through the end of the season...Finished the 2023 season ranked by MLB.com as the Padres' No. 24 overall ranked prospect and their 10th-highest ranked pitching prospect.

Pitched a full season for the first time in his professional career and posted a 4.13 ERA (52.1 IP / 24 ER) with 10 saves and 66 strikeouts between Double-A Pensacola and High-A Beloit...35 of his 50 appearances were scoreless...Held opposing hitters to a .170 batting avg. in 22 appearances with Beloit. Promoted to Double-A in early July and held hitters to a .234 avg. in 28 games...Nine of his final 11 outings with Pensacola were scoreless...Recorded the final five outs in the Southern League championship game for the Blue Wahoos, striking out two batters...Selected to the 40-man roster Nov. 11.
