May 25: DH dealing with left hamstring contusion
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the injury following Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Reds, indicating that it occurred during the Dodgers' most recent homestand. After striking out in his first two at-bats against Cincinnati starter Hunter Greene, Ohtani tripled down the right-field line in the sixth. As he hit the first-base bag, it was immediately noticeable that he was not running at full speed.

“It’s more of just kind of managing that hamstring,” Roberts said. “But today was better than yesterday. And we just need him in there. So we didn’t want to push it. ... It was in the homestand where he got hit when he was on first base on a throw over, and it hit him in the [left] hamstring. And I think that’s where it kind of started. So, the good thing is that it wasn’t a strain. It was a contusion that we’re just trying to manage.”

RHP (right flexor tendon surgery)
Expected return: 2024
After six weeks without picking up a baseball, scans revealed that May needed to undergo right elbow surgery to repair his flexor tendon. The surgery took place on July 18 and was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. There’s no firm timetable for May’s return, but a second major elbow surgery in the past three seasons puts much of his '24 in doubt. The Dodgers placed him on the 60-day injured list to begin the 2024 season. (Last updated: Feb. 9)
