'Sorry for the splash': Witt, Salvy apologize to accidentally soaked security guard

In case you missed it, Bobby Witt Jr. hit a huge home run on Tuesday night against the A's.
One could argue that the stakes are always relatively low in April. But Witt's home run, a game-winning three-run shot hit in the top of the 10th, helped the Royals extend their active winning streak to a season-high four games. It was also his second home run in as many games, huge news given that Witt hadn't homered at all until Sunday. After a miserable start to the 2026 season, the Royals seem to be building some momentum.

Sounds like cause for celebration. Besides, we all know the drill -- the man of the hour, in exchange for his heroics, must have at least one water cooler dumped on him. (Which does, admittedly, sound like a punishment, but who are we to argue with tradition?) On Tuesday, that man was Witt, and Salvador Perez came in right on cue.
Now, because traditions are predictable, Witt knew someone would be coming with the cooler, and he dodged most of the hit successfully. This was bad news for Teresa Luevano, the Sutter Health Park security guard posted a few feet away from the ongoing interview, who found herself unexpectedly included in the celebration.
Luevano was extremely gracious about the whole thing, and Perez was quick with an apology and a hug. But both players clearly felt pretty bad about the mishap (as you would, right?). So when they returned to the park on Wednesday, they came bearing a gift to remember them by -- a signed photo of the incident. A couple of personalized messages were also included: a "sorry for the splash!" from Witt, and a much simpler (and quite adorable) "I love you" from Perez.
Just another entry in the long history of ballpark hijinks -- and the very strange souvenirs they create.
