This Minor League club hit a walk-off homer ... at the opponent's ballpark?

Normally a walk-off home run sends fans into a frenzy, but what about when the out-of-town team hits it?

So when Guardians prospect Nolan Schubart homered for High-A Lake County to cap Thursday's doubleheader and rounded the bases in celebration of the 3-2 victory, Great Lakes fans at Dow Diamond wouldn't be blamed for an indifferent reaction to it.

The Captains served as the home team in the nightcap due to the rescheduling of a May 9 rainout at Classic Park. Lake County had to wait out a perfect five-inning start by Christian Zazueta (LAD No. 9), then tied the game on an RBI double by Jace LaViolette (CLE No. 6).

That set the stage for the bottom of the seventh when Schubart, the Guardians' No. 28 prospect, deposited a 2-2 pitch from right-hander Isaac Ayon over the fence in left field.

The Captains didn't seem to mind having the unusual cause for celebration in someone else's ballpark, greeting Schubart at home plate after his trip around the bases. But the moment wasn't lost on the Loons' broadcasting team either.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Brad Tunney and John Vicari said. “What an odd occurrence!”

The teams had been scheduled to play a doubleheader on Wednesday after a rainout on Tuesday, but the back half was postponed. That set up 15 innings of baseball Thursday, with the Loons picking up a 5-4 victory in the eighth of the first game.

So basically, both teams got to walk it off on this particular occasion.
