Debuted in mid-April at Single-A Lake Elsinore, where the switch-hitter slashed .237/.361/.441 with 11 homers, 38 RBI and 13 steals across 75 games played...Assigned to LE on April 22 and made his professional debut the next day on April 23…went 0-for-4 in his debut at Rancho Cucamonga before posting multi-hit efforts in his second and third games on April 24 and 25, including his first career triple and a career-high four RBI on April 25...Did not homer until his 36th game on June 25, but had 14 XBH (13 2B, 1 3B) prior to homering...While dealing with a left shoulder injury, he had just the 1 homer and a .196/.319/.310 slash line in his first 40 games through June 30 before earning California League Player of the Month honors for July (.318/.442/.694)...In the award-winning month, he led the Cal League in runs scored (26), home runs (8) and total bases (59) and was 2nd in SLG (.694) and OPS (1.136)…he was sixth in RBI (18) and walked as many times (18) as he struck out (18)…he recorded eight multi-hit games and had separate hitting streaks of nine and seven games...Homered from both sides of the plate for his first-career multi-homer game July 5 at Inland Empire…the two long balls were the first of four homers in a three-game stretch, homering in three straight contests from July 5-9…following the multi-homer game, Storm Manager Lukas Ray said: "You could look at the stat line and get lost in the stat line, but if you come to the games and you watch him in person, you know he's the best player on the field every night. And if you come to our pregame, you know how hard he works, how much he’s getting better”...Hit safely in nine of his 14 games in August, including homering in back-to-back contests in Aug. 7-8 at Stockton...On Aug.18, he suffered a right shoulder strain while diving for a ball, sidelining him for the rest of the season...In his 35 games played over the summer in July/August prior to the injury, he posted a .284/.407/.589 slash line with 21 XBH (9 2B, 1 3B, 10 HR) with 23 RBI and 39 runs scored...In more than twice as many at-bats vs. right-handed pitching (212) than left-handers (87), the switch hitter had a higher AVG vs. righties (.241) than lefties (.230)…but seven of his 11 HR came vs. southpaws...All 11 of his HR came when batting first in the Storm lineup, where he had 210 at-bats…hit .271 in 210 at-bats when hitting leadoff, .137 in 73 at-bats hitting second, and .250 in 16 at-bats hitting third...On first pitches of an at-bat that got put in play, he hit .308 with eight XBH (4 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR)...Hit .248 (56-for-226) as a shortstop and .205 (15-73) as the designated hitter...On the season, he made 58 starts at shortstop and 17 as the designated hitter…at SS, he posted a .962 fielding percentage (8 errors, 208 total chances), compiling 133 assists and helping turn 26 double plays...Converted 13 of his 15 stolen base attempts...Following the season, he was drafted second overall in the 2024 Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) Rookie Draft by the Águilas Cibaeñas, but chose to play in the Arizona Fall League instead...De Vries (67 at-bats) joined fellow top Padres’ prospect Ethan Salas (92 at-bats) as the first players at age 18 to get consistent run in the Arizona Fall League since the Mariners’ Julio Rodríguez in 2019…prior to De Vries and Salas in 2024, there were five other players since 2005 to get at least 25 at-bats at the same age, including Bryce Harper, who did so twice (2010-11)...De Vries also became the youngest player to hit a home run in the AFL since Bryce Harper in 2010 (Scottsdale Scorpions)...He was one of three finalists for the final National League spot in the Fall Star’s Game, ultimately winning the NL’s fan vote… entered the game as a replacement for the designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with two SO...Ended 2024 rated as the Padres No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline, behind only Salas…Salas and De Vries ranked No. 19 and No. 28, respectively, on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 list.
