Full name is Wilyer David Abreu...Rooted for the Rockies growing up in Venezuela, as he and former Rockies All-Star Carlos González share their hometown of Maracaibo, VZ.

2024

Made his first Opening Day roster...Led 2024 MLB rookies in doubles (33), third most on the team (Duran-48, Devers-34)...Led qualified 2024 AL rookies in SLG (.459) and ranked second in OPS (.781) and XBH (50), T-3rd in HR (15), fourth in AVG (.253) and OBP (.322), and fifth in RBI (58) and runs scored (59)...Recorded 20 go-ahead RBI, tied with Tyler O’Neill for second most on the team (First: Rafael Devers, 21)...Led the Majors with 17 defensive runs saved in RF...Tied for the ML lead with nine assists in RF. Ranked in MLB’s 98th percentile in arm strength (94.8 mph)...Also ranked in the 95th percentile in fielding arm value (three), 91st in outs above average (seven) and 90th in fielding run value (nine). 

2023

Made his MLB debut, appearing in 28 games in August and September...Started 11 games in CF and eight in LF...Also played in three games in RF...Played 86 games for Triple-A Worcester, making 35 starts in LF, 27 in RF, 15 in CF and eight at DH...Was named an International League All-Star, the first WooSox player to achieve the honor...After making his MLB debut on 8/22, ranked 7th in AVG (.316) and ninth in OBP (.388) among qualified rookies the rest of the season...Also ranked seventh among AL rookies with an .862 OPS...Twice reached base five-plus times in a game and was the only 2023 rookie to reach six times in a game (see box on right). 

2022

Spent the season at the Double-A level between the HOU (Corpus Christi) and BOS (Portland) organizations...Hit .247 (113-for-457) with 106 runs scored, 29 2B, 19 HR, 73 RBI, 114 BB and a .834 OPS in 129 games...Set career highs in games, runs, hits, doubles, HR, RBI, walks, stolen bases (31) and OBP (.399)...Ranked second among all minor leaguers with 114 BB and fifth with 106 runs scored...Was 31-for-34 (91.2%) in stolen base attempts...Reached base safely in 23 consecutive games from 5/13-6/9 (.456 OBP, 25-for-87, 27 BB)...Hit a season-high two HR on 7/31 at Amarillo, his third career multi-HR game (did so twice in 2021 with High-A Asheville)...Acquired by BOS on 8/1...Was ranked as HOU’s No. 21 prospect by Baseball America at the time of his acquisition...Reached base safely in 34 of his 40 games with the Sea Dogs, reaching via walk multiple times in 11 games.
