Men's College World Series: Complete results, recaps, box scores

The most exciting event of the college baseball calendar is officially underway as eight teams face off in Omaha this weekend in their quest to be crowned the best in the nation at the Men's College World Series.

West Virginia vs. Troy got things started at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, and the action continues with North Carolina taking on Mississippi at 7 p.m. ET in a contest that will contain eight of MLB Pipeline's Top 200 Draft prospects.

July 11-12:

The other side of the bracket kicks things off on Saturday as Alabama and MLB Pipeline's No. 9 Draft prospect Justin Lebron take on Oklahoma at 3 p.m. ET. A marquee matchup of powerhouses -- also showcasing eight of the top Draft prospects -- follows with a tilt between Georgia and Texas at 8 p.m. ET.

The double elimination tournament goes until June 17, but can extend to June 18 if any tiebreaker games are needed. The Best-of-3 Championship Series begins on June 20 with a winner-take-all Game 3 scheduled for June 22 if necessary.

A two-run single from No. 9 hitter Tyrus Hall broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth and provided the difference for West Virginia in this opening game at Omaha. Hall led the Mountaineers offense with two hits, four RBIs, a walk and a run scored. Troy's catcher Jimmy Janicki -- Draft eligible next year -- collected two hits, including a double, drove in a run, walked and scored twice. Box score
