PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks have landed a new pitching coach, tabbing Padres bullpen coach Ben Fritz to replace Brian Kaplan, who was not brought back after two seasons in the role.
Per a source, there are still final details to be worked out, but Fritz is their choice. The club has not confirmed the news, which was first reported by The Athletic.
Fritz, 45, joined the Padres' coaching staff after the 2019 season and has worked under well-respected pitching coach Ruben Niebla since 2022.
A source said that assistant pitching coach Owen Dew and bullpen coach Wellington Cepeda will return in their current roles.
When all is said and done, the source said, all of the Diamondbacks' coaches on the staff -- minus Kaplan -- will return to the roles they had last season.
