PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks pitching coach Brian Kaplan will not return to the club next season, a source told MLB.com.
Kaplan's contract, which he signed in Nov. 2024, had expired, and the team elected not to bring him back.
Kaplan replaced Brent Strom following the 2024 season after serving as the Phillies assistant pitching coach from 2022-24.
A source said the fates of the rest of manager Torey Lovullo's staff were still to be determined. Lovullo, whose contract was also set to expire at the end of this month, agreed to a two-year extension last Thursday.
Lovullo was asked about whether his coaching staff would return in 2027 at a press conference to announce his extension.
"I'm going to have some conversations, and I need to think through some things very clearly," he said. "To be honest with you, I haven't thought about it at all, and I want to be fair to that group. I told them on the last day [of the season] in San Diego that I didn't know what was happening with me, and once I figured that out, I will start to move downfield with the next group of decisions. I anticipate that I'll probably have that conversation starting right after this press conference, but I don't know what that answer is right now."
