Long heralded for his flame-throwing stuff, Emiliano Teodo is back to dominating in one of the best stretches of his career.
The Rangers’ No. 17 prospect tossed another scoreless inning in Triple-A Round Rock’s 7-3 loss to Oklahoma City on Sunday at Bricktown Ballpark. Teodo has now gone nine straight appearances without allowing a run and six straight without even giving up a hit, lowering his season ERA from 6.27 to 4.23 after a shaky start.
With the 60-grade fastball that ran him as high as Texas’ No. 6 prospect last season, Teodo crossed triple digits five times Sunday, topping out at 101.9 mph. He additionally fired the four fastest recorded pitches across Triple-A on Sunday.
Teodo issued a leadoff walk in his 25th appearance of the year, but he then induced a double play in the next at-bat and struck out the hot-hitting James Tibbs III to end the inning. He battled with Tibbs to a full-count, finally wiping him out on a 101.6 mph sinker -- the second-fastest pitch of Teodo’s outing.
COMPLETE RANGERS PROSPECT COVERAGE
After bouncing between starting and coming out of the bullpen since signing with Texas in 2020, the 25-year-old Dominican Republic native appears to be finding his groove again in relief, though his 22 walks in 27 2/3 innings pitched still bear watching.
