The story of Field of Dreams

Field of Dreams stars Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones and Amy Madigan. It was nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Picture in 1990 and was selected to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2017. The 1989 film, adapted from W. P. Kinsella's 1982 novel Shoeless Joe, tells the story of Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, a husband and father who is tending to his cornfield when he hears a mysterious voice intone, *"If you build it, he will come."* According to the American Film Institute (AFI), those words are the 39th top film quote of all-time.

MLB at Field of Dreams transforms a quiet cornfield in Dyersville, Iowa into a magical stage where baseball and legend collide. The inaugural 2021 game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees ended in a breathtaking 9 - 8 walk-off win for the White Sox, leaving fans in awe of the drama and nostalgia only this setting can create. It quickly became a celebration of the timeless spirit of the game, where every pitch felt larger than life. On August 13, 2026, MLB at Field of Dreams returns as the Minnesota Twins host the Philadelphia Phillies, setting the stage for another unforgettable experience in this cinematic tribute to baseball.

MiLB at Field of Dreams 2026

On Aug. 11, 2026 at 6:30 PM CT, “MiLB at Field of Dreams” aired live on MLB Network from Dyersville, Iowa. MiLB’s return to the iconic movie site for the first time in four years featured an International League contest between the St. Paul Saints, Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins and Iowa Cubs, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. This event was an Iowa Cubs home date, with the Tuesday game followed by five additional games between the teams at Principal Park in Des Moines.

The Aug. 11, 2026 event followed the previous Minor League game at the iconic location of Universal Pictures' classic 1989 film Field of Dreams. On Aug. 9, 2022, the Midwest League’s Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins’ High-A affiliate) played the Quad Cities River Bandits (Kansas City Royals’ High-A affiliate) in Dyersville.

A Major League Baseball game will accompany the MiLB at Field of Dreams game. On Aug. 13, 2026, the Minnesota Twins will host the Philadelphia Phillies, in Dyersville. This will mark the third Major League Baseball game played at the iconic ballpark and first since 2022. On Aug. 12, 2021, the Chicago White Sox faced the New York Yankees, followed by the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs playing on Aug. 11, 2022.
