In December, 2020, the Fenway Bowl launched the Fenway Bowl Honor Roll, a charitable program focused on recognizing and thanking educational institutions and educators who have gone above and beyond to support their students and respective communities during this difficult year. Presented by Sam Adams and Cross Insurance, the program will run on an annual basis and includes a donation to an institution or program supporting the educational needs of their community. This year, two New England educators are being highlighted for their achievements, and a financial contribution has been made to the Greater Boston YMCA.
The 2020 Fenway Bowl Honor Roll highlights the achievements of 30 teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators from New England who have made a difference in 2020, and who will be recognized as the 2020 Monster Nominees on BostonGlobe.com. From this group, two educators have been selected as Monster Finalists, as an acknowledgement of the incredible impact they’ve had in their specific schools and communities.
- Michael Davis, a principal at the Walton Elementary School, Auburn, ME, who traveled over 300 miles to deliver plants, whoopie pies, cards, and more to the homes of 54 staff members during Teacher Appreciation Week
- Julia Gallogly, an English Language Learners teacher at Beachmont Veterans Memorial School in Revere, MA, who supported families in Revere during the COVID-19 emergency. Gallogyly delivered school supplies to families without resources and created a GoFundMe page that raised over $23,000 dollars for the Revere community.
The donation to the Greater Boston YMCA is earmarked to support the organization's Community-based Learning Centers, which were established this year to help support working families. The Community-based Learning Centers provide children of low-income working families with safe, nurturing and reliable programs where their children will experience opportunities for learning, social emotional development, wellness, enrichment, nourishment, recreation, arts, movement, and fun.
