LATEST NEWS

June 16: LHP (right ankle sprain) placed on 15-day injured list; RHP Spencer Bivens selected from Triple-A Sacramento; RHP Nick Avila released
Harrison had been scheduled to start Sunday afternoon's series finale against the Angels, but he was scratched after rolling his ankle while doing his weight room routine on Saturday. Left-hander Erik Miller got the start in a bullpen game for the Giants in place of Harrison, who has been one of the club's most consistent starters and recorded a 3.96 ERA over 14 outings this season.

Harrison's injury created an opening for the Giants to promote Bivens, a 29-year-old reliever who pitched in France and the independent leagues before signing with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent in May 2022. Bivens finally got the long-awaited call to the Majors after logging a 2.81 ERA over 21 appearances at Triple-A Sacramento and earning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month honors in May.

The Giants opened up a spot on the 40-man roster for Bivens by releasing Avila, a Modesto, Calif., native who posted an 8.49 ERA over eight Major League appearances this year.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP (left groin strain)
Expected return: Possibly late June
Snell was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain on June 3, a day after he exited in the middle of an at-bat in the fifth inning against the Yankees. It's the second time Snell has been placed on the IL this season, as he also missed 25 games with another left adductor strain in April. He threw a bullpen at Oracle Park on June 15, and is expected to throw three simulated innings in his next throwing session on June 18. (Last updated: June 16)

1B (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Possibly late June
Wade injured the hamstring after sliding into second base for a double in the Giants' May 27 win over the Phillies, and an MRI revealed a Grade 2 strain. He landed on the 10-day injured list on May 28 and was expected to miss around four weeks.

Wade has resumed taking batting practice on the field and increased his running progression during the Giants' series with the Angels from June 14-16, but manager Bob Melvin said it's likely a "stretch" that he'll be ready to return in time for the Giants' historic matchup with the Cardinals at Rickwood Field on June 20.

"I'm not ruling anything out, but it's probably going to be pretty tough for him to play in that game," Melvin said on June 16. (Last updated: June 16)

LHP (right ankle sprain)
Expected return: July
Harrison was scheduled to start against the Angels on June 16, but he was scratched after rolling his ankle while doing his weight room routine and placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 13. Harrison's injury is the latest blow for the Giants' starting rotation, which is already without veterans Blake Snell, Alex Cobb and Robbie Ray. (Last updated: June 16)

60-DAY IL

RHP (left hip surgery)
Expected return: Second half
Cobb was progressing well in his rehab from offseason hip surgery, but he hit another setback when he felt mild shoulder irritation before throwing a bullpen session on April 16. Cobb, who was transferred to the 60-day injured list on April 20, attempted to resume throwing after that, but he was shut down again after continuing to experience soreness in his shoulder. He resumed a throwing progression after receiving some nerve medication and looked "really good" during a 25-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on June 11. He threw another 30-35 pitch bullpen on June 14, though he likely won't be a candidate to rejoin the Giants' rotation until after the All-Star break. (Last updated: June 14)

LHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: Second half
Ray, who was acquired from the Mariners in exchange for outfielder Mitch Haniger and right-hander Anthony DeSclafani on Jan. 5, gave up three runs on four hits over 1 2/3 innings in his third rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on June 13. He will make his next ACL appearance on June 18. The Giants have been pleased with his progress so far, but he likely won't be ready to join the starting rotation until around the All-Star break. RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: June or July
Warren worked a scoreless inning in a rehab outing with Single-A San Jose on June 12 and will make his next appearance on June 15. The 28-year-old signed a one-year, $755,000 contract with the Giants on Feb. 14 and could help boost the bullpen once he's healthy. Warren recorded a 3.55 ERA over 32 career appearances for the Angels from 2021-23. (Last updated: June 14)

C (left knee sprain)
Expected return: July
Murphy felt a pop in his knee after going down to try to block a wild pitch in the second inning of the Giants' 14-3 loss to the Phillies on May 4 and was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day. An MRI exam revealed a Grade 1-2 sprain for Murphy, who is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 15 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow backstop Curt Casali. He has resumed taking batting practice in the cage and is throwing out to 110 feet.

Signed to a two-year, $8.25 million deal in December, Murphy hit .118 with one home run over his first 13 games with the Giants. (Last updated: June 14)

RHP (upper right arm aneurysm)
Expected return: Second half
Beck, 27, felt his hand go cold after throwing some bullpen sessions early in camp, prompting the Giants to send him back to San Francisco to be evaluated by team doctors on Feb. 27. He ended up visiting a vascular specialist at Stanford, who helped determine that an aneurysm -- an abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel -- was the source of the numbness. Beck was transferred to the 60-day injured list on March 3 and underwent surgery at Stanford the next day to address the issue.

Beck was cleared to resume full baseball activity after a follow-up appointment with Dr. Jason Lee on May 1. He is currently throwing out to 120 feet and will resume throwing off the mound next week. (Last updated: June 14)

CF (left shoulder dislocation)
Expected return: 2025
Lee suffered a season-ending torn labrum in his left shoulder crashing into the center-field fence on May 12 and had surgery on June 4. The club considered the procedure a success and said the typical timeline for recovery is six months. (Last updated: June 4)

LHP (moderate right oblique strain)
Expected return: Second half
Small is "still a ways away," manager Bob Melvin said on May 28, and has not responded well to throwing. He was acquired from the Brewers over the offseason and was in the running for a bullpen spot before sustaining the injury. (Last updated: May 28)
