Matthew Thomas Belisle (pronounced bah-LY-ull)...1998 graduate of McCallum High School in Austin, Texas, where he lettered in baseball and basketball...named Sophomore of the Year for his district in baseball...was the district's Most Valuable Player as a junior.

201

Spent first season with Washington after signing as minor league free agent February 17 and was non-roster invite to spring training. Placed on disabled list April 27 with a right calf strain; reinstated June 1, missing 45 games... Posted a 1.53 ERA (29.1 IP, 5 ER) with four walks and 20 strikeouts from July 7 through the end of the season. Allowed just two earned runs in final 16.0 IP (1.13 ERA)... Allowed just two home runs on the season, one of five pitchers in the AL to allow two-or-fewer homers (minimum of 45.0 innings pitched)... Posted career-highs in ERA (1.76), hits-per-9.0 IP (8.41) and walks-per-9.0 IP (1.37)...his 1.09 WHIP and 4.57 strikeouts-per-walk were his best marks since 2010.... Combined to go 0-1, 2.04 (53.0 IP, 12 ER) with seven walks and 38 strikeouts in 46 games between Washington, Syracuse and Harrisburg.

2015

Went 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 34 appearances, his fewest since 2009, after missing 68 games with a right elbow injury...it was his first DL stint since the end of September 2008 (422 appearances between injuries)...allowed only one HR in 33.2 innings, ranking ninth among NL relievers in HR per nine innings (0.27)...of his 34 hits allowed, only six went for extra bases...tossed six outings of four outs or more, all scoreless, with a season high of 2.2 IP on May vs. ARI...allowed runs in only 7-of-34 total appearances, and only one run in five of those seven...posted a 1.20 ERA in 16 appearances (15.0 IP) against NL Central opponents.

2014

Had 66 appearances with Colorado, including one start. It marked his 5th-straight season of at least 65 appearances. Threw at least 1.0 inning in 49 of his 64 relief apps. and was 3-2 with a 3.69 ERA (53.2 IP/22 ER) during those 49 games. Allowed just one run in nine relief appearances during May for an ERA of 0.90 (10.0 IP/1 ER). Earned wins in consecutive appearances 6/13 & 6/15 at SF, both Rockies come-from-behind wins...last time he earned the win in back-to-back games was 5/28/13 at HOU and 6/1/13 vs. LAD. Made his 1st start 8/15/14 vs. CIN since a start on 5/25/08 at SD for Cincinnati...was a spot-start in which he went 3.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 4 hits with one walk and one strikeout.

2013

Belisle appeared in 72 games during the 2013 season...it was his fourth-straight season of at least 70 appearances... he is one of two pitchers to have an active streak of 4 consecutive 70 app. seasons (Tyler Clippard)...he ranked 2nd on the team in appearances behind Wilton Lopez's 75. Of his 72 appearances on the year, 64 of them were at least 1.0 inning or more with 20 holds ... he had 24 holds on the year and in those games carried a 1.96 ERA (23.0 ip, 5 er) with 19 strikeouts compared to 6 walks ... the Rockies were 21-3 in the games he was credited with a hold. His 24 holds ranked tied for seventh in the National League...86 holds as a Rockie are 2nd in franchise history behind Steve Reed (95). Appeared in his 300th game as a Rockie on 7/23 vs. MIA...he has appeared in 326 games for the Rockies, which ranks fourth in franchise history...Curtis Leskanic is third with 356 games. 2012

Belisle set a Rockies franchise record in 2012 by appearing in 80 games for Colorado...he passes Todd Jones (2002) and Jose Mesa (2006) who each appeared in 79 games in a single season...he is one of just 32 MLB pitchers since 2000 to appear in at least 80 games and toss at least 80.0 innings in a single season. Tossed at least 1.0 inning in 61 of his 80 appearances...in those 61, went 2-4 with two saves, 23 holds, a 2.93 ERA (70.2 ip, 23 er), 14 walks and 59 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .262 average. In 22 appearances from 5/22-7/6, Belisle allowed just two runs (0.75 ERA), 19 hits (.216 average) and six walks over24.0 innings while striking out 23 batters. Over that same stretch at the end of June to beginning of July, Belisle recorded the Rockies longest scoreless inning stretch of the season, a 14.0 inning stretch from 6/13-7/6...that stretch was the longest by a Rox pitcher since Ubaldo Jimenez' 15.0 inning streak 9/27/10-4/1/11. Since 2010, Belisle has appeared in more games (230) than any other Rockies pitcher and is tied for the second-most appearances in the Majors behind only Sean Marshall's 231 appearances. Owned a 1.93 ERA (46.2 ip, 10 er) in 43 appearances prior to the All-Star break...went 0-6 with a 6.21 ERA (33.1 ip, 23 er) in 37 appearances after the break. Underwent season-ending surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee (Dr. Timothy Kremchek) on 8/19...made 6 starts for the Reds and one start and 25 relief appearances for Triple-A Louisville...began the season on the 15-day DL with soreness in his right forearm...after 3 rehab starts, he was reinstated to start on 4/21 vs. LAD, when David Weathers went to the DL and Josh Fogg was sent to the bullpen...from 4/21-5/25 went 1-4, 7.28 in his 6 starts for the Reds before he was optioned to Louisville on 5/29, when Kent Mercker came off the DL and Fogg returned to the rotation...spent the rest of the season with Louisville and made all 25 of his appearances there in relief...in his 6 starts the Reds went 2-4 and scored 30 runs (5 runs per game)...from 5/10-5/20 had 9 days off between starts...was scheduled to start on 5/15 vs FLA, but that game was rained out and he was skipped in the rotation...made his last appearance for the Reds in the 18-inning, 12-9 loss on 5/25 at SD, a game in which the Reds used 24 players... when the team headed north he remained in Sarasota at extended spring training...made 3 minor league rehab appearances, one each for Single-A Sarasota and Double-A Chattanooga and Louisville...in those 3 starts, he combined to go 3-0, 1.09 before he was reinstated from the DL on 4/21...on 9/9 was recalled and placed on the 60-day DL with the knee injury to make room on the roster for September callups...on 12/12 was not tendered a contract and became a free agent.

2007

In his first full season as a starter established career highs in every statistical category... began the season with the Reds and went 6-8, 5.40 in 24 starts before he was optioned to Louisville on 8/11... beginning 6/3, in his last 12 starts prior to that 8/11 option went 1-4, 6.61...made 1 start for the Bats, a 5-2 loss on 8/19 at Charlotte, before he returned to Cin on 8/25... in 7 starts after he returned from Louisville went 2-1, 5.06 and once was the victim of a blown save...in his 30 apps produced 11 quality starts...in his 30 starts the Reds went 12-18 and scored 165 runs (5.5 r/g)...4 times was the victim of blown saves...in April went 3-1, 3.45 in 5 starts...won his first 2 starts of the season...in 10 starts between wins on 5/29 and 8/3 went 0-4, 6.59 and 3 times was the victim of blown saves...on 8/3 at Pit snapped that career-high 4-game losing streak with a 13-4 victory...made his 100th career appearance in a 9-3 loss vs Phi on 4/22...on 4/28 at Pit, in the 8-1 victory threw a 5-hitter for his first career complete game (0bb, 5k, 91 pitches)...was his 12th career start and the first CG by a Reds pitcher in 2007...retired the first 16 batters until Ronny Paulino doubled with 1 out in the sixth inning...in the fourth inning gave the Reds a 2-0 lead with his first career RBI...in the 5-2 loss on 9/16 at Mil began the game with 5 consecutive strikeouts before walking No. 6 batter J.J. Hardy... overall recorded his first 6 outs by strikeout...in his final start of the season, a no-decision in a 4-3 loss vs Hou on 9/27, retired his first 18 batters until Josh Anderson singled to open the seventh inning.

Made 30 apps in a season plagued by a back injury...twice was on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower back (5/30-6/26, 7/14-8/19)...began the season with 28 relief apps (2-0, 4.45)...made his last 2 apps as a starter (0-0, 0.93, 9.2ip, 8h, 7bb, 4k)...saved his best appearance of the season for the finale, in the 1-0 loss on 10/1 at Pit started and threw 6.0 shutout innings (5h, 2bb, 3k)...posted a 3.86era in 14 apps before his first disabling on 5/30...didn't allow an earned run in 6 rehab apps at Dayton, Chattanooga and Louisville (9.1ip) before he was reinstated on 6/27...post a 5.79era in 5 apps for the Reds before he returned to the DL on 7/14...made 6 scoreless rehab apps for Louisville (7ip) before he was reinstated on 8/20...on 8/31 was optioned to Sarasota to make room on the active roster for OF Brendan Harris...was recalled on 9/4 after Sarasota's season concluded...made 3 more relief apps (2ip, 0r) before finishing the season with the 2 starts, a no-decision in the 5-3 win at Fla on 9/26 and the 1-0 loss in the season's final game... twice threw at least 3.0 innings in relief...threw 3.0 scoreless innings in a 9-3 loss at StL on 4/15...was a career high for innings pitched out of the bullpen, but then on 4/20 at Mil threw 4+ innings to earn the 12-8 victory (5h, 2er, 0bb, 3k, 71pch)...pitched for Manati in the Puerto Rican Winter League (8g, 5gs, 3-1-2, 2.53, 32ip, 34h, 6bb, 16k).

In his first full season in the Major Leagues went 2-6-1, 4.09 in 55 relief apps and 2-2, 5.25 in 5 starts...made all 5 starts in his first 15 apps of the season, then beginning 6/9 made his last 45 apps of the season in relief (4.11era)...in his last 10 apps of the season allowed 15 runs (9.1ip, 10er), a stretch preceded by 9 consecutive scoreless apps (6.2ip) that had lowered his ERA to 3.77 through games of 9/4...began the season with 2 relief appearances but then from 4/13-4/23 made his first 3 big league straight starts (1-1, 6.23)...during that span took the spot in the rotation vacated by the disabled Ramon Ortiz...following that 3-start stretch, from 4/27-5/13 made 8 consecutive appearances out of the bullpen (0-2, 3.46)...followed that stint in the 'pen with starts on 5/25 vs Wsh and 5/31 at Hou (1-1, 4.09) and then finished the season with the 45 straight relief appearances...in his 5 starts the Reds went 3-2...twice was called upon to replace that day's starting pitcher...in those 2 starts went 2-0, 2.45 after earning a 6-5 victory on 4/13 at StL (replaced Ramon Ortiz) and a 12-3 win on 5/25 vs Wsh (replaced Aaron Harang)...on 4/13 at StL made his first Major League start after Ortiz was scratched that morning with a groin injury...in that 6-5 victory became the first Reds pitcher to win his first ML start since Luis Pineda on 6/25/02 at Chi (5-2 win)...in the 11-10 victory on 7/4 at SF earned the first save of his professional career...on 9/30 at StL allowed Albert Pujols' 200th career homer (grand slam)...on 5/31 at Hou, in front of 35 family and friends, produced an infield single off Brandon Backe for his first career hit.

2004

In his first full season at Class AAA led Louisville in wins (9), losses (11), starts (28) and innings pitched (162.2)...his 28 starts tied the franchise record...ranked sixth in the International League in innings pitched...from 8/20-8/22 spent 3 days with the Reds but did not pitch...was promoted when Danny Graves went on the disabled list and returned to Louisville when Austin Kearns came off the DL...produced 11 quality starts for the Bats...was the club's Pitcher of the Month for April (4gs, 2-2, 1.88)...in the 6-0 victory on 4/19 vs Norfolk threw his only professional shutout to help earn IL Pitcher of the Week honors...was the only Bats player to earn a weekly award in '04...from 4/14-4/26 put together a 20.2-inning scoreless streak...threw his other CG in a 4-2 loss at Norfolk on 8/7/g1...on 8/13 vs Indy hit his first career home run.

2003

Was 1 of 13 Reds players to make his Major League debut...in 28 minor league starts for Richmond, Louisville and Greenville combined to go 8-12, 3.41 with 1cg...after he was acquired from the Braves on 8/ 14 made 4 starts at Louisville before he was promoted to the Reds on 9/7...that afternoon at StL threw 2.0 innings in his Major League debut (2h, 1bb, 1hbp, Matheny solo homer)...in the 10-6 win vs Pit on 9/9 tossed a scoreless inning for his first career victory...suffered his loss in the 7-6 defeat at Chi on 9/13 during which he allowed 3 earned runs in 1.1 innings and recorded his first career strikeout (Damian Miller)...his ERA in his other 5 apps was 2.45 (7.1ip, 2er)...in his last 2 apps for the Reds, on 9/24 vs Chi and 9/26 vs Mtl, didn't allow a hit in 3.1ip (2h, 0bb, 4k)...when he debuted on 9/7 at StL became the 56th player and 29th pitcher to appear for the Reds, extending both club records that eventually would reach 57 and 30, respectively...overall threw 180.0 innings. Career highlights: Was the Atlanta Braves' first pick (second round) in the June 1998 first-year player draft...was Greenville's Pitcher of the Month for May 2002...missed the 2001 season following back surgery...was South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for May 2000.

Led Class AA Greenville in innings pitched (159.1) and strikeouts (123) and tied for staff lead in starts (26)...his walks-to- 9ip ratio of 2.14 was second-best among Southern League starters...ranked fifth in the SL in strikeouts...was named Greenville's Pitcher of the Month for May (2-0, 1.98).

2001

Missed the entire season with a ruptured disc in his back that required surgery on 3/29 (Dr. Lee Kelley)...suffered the injury during spring training... healed quickly enough to pitch in the instructional league and Arizona Fall League.

2000

Combined to go 12-9, 3.83 in 27 starts at Macon and Myrtle Beach...led all Braves minor leaguers with 168 strikeouts while issuing just 29 walks...was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for May (5-0, 2.18)...at Macon allowed just 8.88 runners per 9ip, fewest among SAL starting pitchers...in 9 starts from 5/2-6/17 went 8-0, 1.99...was rated by Baseball America as the fourth-best prospect in the Braves organization.

1999

Signed his first professional contract on 8/23/98 and began his career the next season at rookie Danville.
