After spending the entire season with Tulsa, Morillo made his Major League debut with one start for the Rockies in late September...was recalled from Double-A on Sept. 24 and made his debut that afternoon vs. Atlanta at Coors Field...did not factor in the decision after allowing seven runs on eight hits in just 4.0 innings pitched...had a rough start to his major league career as he issued walks to his first three batters faced, then hit Andruw Jones with a pitch before allowing a grand slam to Brian McCann...pitched 2.0 scoreless innings after the slam before allowing solo home runs to Chipper Jones and Brian McCann in the fourth frame...left the game trailing 7-2 before the Rockies plated seven runs over the next four innings in a 9-8 win...prior to that start, Morillo spent the entire year with the Drillers posting professional highs in nearly every category in what was his first season at the Double-A level...went 12-8 with a 4.62 ERA (140.1 ip, 72 er) with 132 strikeouts against 80 walks in 27 games/starts...ranked T1st among the Texas League leaders in wins and walks and third in both strikeouts and games started...ranked among organizational leaders in wins (3rd) and strikeouts (4th)...held opponents to a .248 average...opposition hit just .188 (24-for-128) off Morillo when leading off an inning...posted six or more strikeouts on 12 occasions, including a season-high nine strikeouts on three occasions...of his 27 starts, 11 were quality outings with the Drillers going 9-2 in such contests...allowed three runs or less in 19 of 27 games and issued three walks or less in 18 outings...gave up season-high seven runs in three different starts...posted a 4-2 record with a 2.14 ERA (46.1 ip, 11 er) over nine starts from April 18-June 1, tossing 6.0 or more innings in 5 of those nine contests while allowing two runs or less in each start...included in that stretch was his first career complete game on April 30 (1) vs. Frisco, a seven-inning affair...was selected to North Division roster for the Texas League All-Star Game on June 20 at Little Rock's Ray Winder Field...was charged with the loss after allowing the game's only run on an RBI groundout...lost three straight starts June 30-July 10, posting a 10.95 ERA (12.1 ip, 15 er) to rise from 3.19 to 4.28...went 4-0 with a 3.24 ERA (25.0 ip, 9 er) over his final 4 starts of the season to drop season figure from 4.92 to 4.62...held opponents to a .167 (14-for-84) batting average against during that span...started Tulsa's first game of the Texas League playoffs on Sept. 5 vs. Wichita...did not factor in the decision despite pitching 7.0 shutout innings with season-best 10 strikeouts in Tulsa's 2-1, 11-inning defeat...prior to the season, was named Rockies' 8th-best prospect by Baseball America...made two appearances for Este in the Dominican Winter League.

Split the season with Low-A Asheville and High-A Modesto, combining to go 7-8 with a 4.44 ERA (146.0 ip, 72 er) in 27 games/starts...after the season, was rated by Baseball America as having best fastball in both the South Atlantic and California Leagues...led all Rockies farmhands with 144 strikeouts and posted 10th-best ERA in the system...began the year with Asheville, going 1-3, 4.54 in 7 games/starts through mid-May...had 43 K's in 33.2 innings...posted at least 6 strikeouts in each of his final 5 games for the Tourists, including 10 K's in his last outing on May 11 vs. Lake County...had a 6.35 ERA through 4 starts, but permitting one run in 6.0 innings in 2 of his final 3 efforts to drop to 4.54...one of those starts was lone win on April 30 at Lakewood...promoted to Modesto after May 11 outing and would go 6-5, 4.41 in 20 games/starts for the Nuts the rest of the way...posted 8th-best ERA in the league, but also led circuit with 65 walks despite his late arrival...took loss in his High-A debut on May 17 vs. Bakersfield despite allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in season-high 8.0 innings...recorded 2nd and final 10-strikeout game on June 9 (G2) vs. Visalia in just 5.1 innings...of 16 batters retired in that start, 10 were via the strikeout...won 4 consecutive starts from July 1-20, posting a 1.38 ERA (26.0 ip, 4 er) in that span...overall for July, was 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 5 starts...went 0-1 in final 8 starts...was selected to World roster for MLB Futures Game July 10 at Detroit's Comerica Park...retired both batter faced in the game, hitting 99 mph on radar guns...lost lone playoff start for Modesto...had 3.54 ERA (20.1 ip, 8 er) over 10 G for Azucareros in Dominican Winter League.

2001

The San Pedro de Macoris native made his pro debut with the Rockies' Dominican Summer League affiliate...he was 2-4 with a 6.81 ERA in seven starts and seven relief appearances.

2002

Pitched in the Dominican Summer League for the second straight year, posting a 1-5 record with a 4.75 ERA in 14 games, 11 starts.

2003

Juan started 15 games for Rookie-level Casper in his first season in the United States...he was 1-6 with a 5.91 ERA in 64.0 innings of work...allowed the most runs in the circuit (73) and second most walks (40)...Morillo began the year by losing his first six decisions, June 18-Aug. 15, which included five consecutive losing starts from July 25-Aug. 15...on Aug. 9 vs. Ogden, Morillo allowed 10 runs but none earned thanks to a two-out error in the third-inning...notched his one and only win on Aug. 20 vs. Great Falls and proceeded to allow just 5 earned runs over his final three starts (2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings)...ended the year with his best start, a no decision on Sept. 2 vs. Idaho Falls when he gave up 2 runs over 6.2 innings with no walks and 9 strikeouts.

2004

Morillo spent the entire year with Tri City of the short-season Northwest League, where he led the league in strikeouts per nine innings (9.90) and ranked fourth in ERA (2.98)...Juan posted only a 3-2 record in 14 starts but the Dust Devils were 11-3 in games that he started...a mid-season all-star, the righthander finished fourth in the NWL with 73 strikeouts and was second with 41 walks...Morillo never allowed more than 4 earned runs in any of his 14 starts, including 12 outings in which he gave up 3 or fewer earned runs and eight starts in which he yielded 1 or none...he went the first 10 games of 2004 without a loss, 2- 0 while posting a 2.72 ERA from June 19 to Aug. 7 (43.0 ip, 13 er)...he was 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA in the month of July...suffered his first defeat on Aug. 13, a 12-4 loss at Vancouver...bounced back in his very next outing, allowing just 1 hit and no runs over 6.0 innings with 8 K's in a 4-0 combined shutout over Spokane on Aug. 18...missed a start late in the year due to a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder...tabbed by Baseball America as the sixth best prospect in the Northwest League at season's end.
