Was a member of the Major League roster at A’s Spring Training camp for the first time in his career but began the year on the team’s 15-day Injured List with a right shoulder impingement, a harbinger for what became an up-and-down, injury-impacted season…would appear in just six games with the A’s over a two-week stint from 5/13-27, posting no record with one hold and a 13.50 ERA (8 ER/5.1 IP)…also pitched in 19 Minor League contests while on both rehab assignment and option, going 2-2 with a 7.50 ERA (15 ER/18.0 IP)…placed on the IL on 3/26 and made six Minor League rehab appearances with Single-A Stockton (1 G) and Triple-A Las Vegas (5 G), yielding 3 ER in 4.2 IP (5.79 ERA)…activated by the A’s on 5/13 and appeared the next day at LAD, firing 1.1 scoreless IP…allowed 1+ R in four of six appearances and 2+ R in three of six games before he was optioned to AAA on 5/28…pitched in two games with Las Vegas, then landed on the Aviators’ seven-day Injured List on 6/8 with a right shoulder impingement…activated by LV on 8/15 and carried an 8.44 ERA (10 ER/10.2 IP) over his final 11 appearances.

Combined to go 4-3 with a 3.14 ERA and a career-high 70 strikeouts in a career-high 63.0 innings over 14 starts between Rookie Kingsport and Short-Season Brooklyn…struck out a careerhigh eight batters three times: June 18 at Greeneville, July 4 at Elizabethton and July 15 at Greeneville…logged a career-high 7.0 innings July 20 at Bristol.

Pitched for the Mets affiliate in the Gulf Coast League and was 1-6 with a 7.64 ERA in 11 games, including seven starts…yielded just two home runs in 35.1 innings but walked 24 for an average of 6.11 walks per nine innings.

Missed the entire season after undergoing “Tommy John” surgery on his right elbow on Dec. 6, 2016…the surgery was performed by Dr. Altcheck.
