Began the season with Triple-A Omaha and made four scoreless appearances for Storm Chasers to begin the season...Recalled by Kansas City on April 14...Nine of his first 10 appearances for Kansas City were scoreless...Recorded the final two outs in the sixth inning May 28 vs. the Nationals, then made his first Major League start the next day on May 29 in St. Louis, where he spun a 1-2-3 frame with strikeouts of Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman, making him the first pitcher in Royals history to start a game on zero days’ rest, a feat that James McArthur also achieved from Aug. 15-16...In the May 29 start in St. Louis, combined with Mike Mayers to retire the first 21 batters of the game, matching the second-longest perfect game bid in franchise history, according to Elias...Allowed at least one run in five of his final 11 appearances for Royals, a stretch in which he was charged with 10 runs on 12 hits and nine walks in 10.0 innings from May 12-June 5...Placed on 10-day injured list on June 6 with a neck strain and did not return in 2023...Missed the Royals' final 101 games...Held left-handed hitters to a .219 batting average with a .574 OPS and righties to a .220 average with a .690 OPS...Posted a 51.0% ground ball percentage, the highest of career (previous high of 38.7% in 2021)...Finished season in the 79th percentile in baseball in average fastball velocity at 95.8 mph...Held opponents to a .133 (2-for-15) batting average on slider and 0-for-4 on sinker...Designated for release or assignment by Royals after season on Nov. 14 and elected free agency Nov. 17.

Staumont made the Opening Day roster in 2022 *min. 90 appearances for the third straight year, but endured two stints on the Injured List, from June 26-July 15 with a neck strain, and from Aug. 24 through season’s end with right biceps tendinitis... He surrendered a HR to Aaron Judge on May 1, snapping a 29.0-inning homerless streak that dated back to Aug. 14, 2021, ending this run one out shy of matching his career-best homerless streak of 29.1 innings, set from Sept. 9, 2020-May 19, 2021... Staumont had a 3.67 ERA (11 ER in 27.0 IP) in 30 appearances before the All-Star break, but had a 13.50 ERA (16 ER in 10.2 IP) in 12 outings after the break. .. He threw a career-high 42 pitches on Aug. 23 vs. Arizona, in which he was charged with four runs on three hits and three walks, and was placed on the IL the following day.

Posted a 1.29 ERA (1 ER in 7.0 IP) and held opponents to a .167 average (4-for-24) in his five road outings, compared to a 5.11 ERA (7 ER in 12.1 IP) and a .321 opponents' average (17-for-53) at home ... Did not allow a leadoff hit (0-for-16), while the first hitter reached just twice in the 18 innings he started (.111 OBP) ... Made a career-high 41 appearances (5 starts) with Omaha (AAA), where he went 2-5 with a 3.51 ERA (29 ER in 74.1 IP) and 103 strikeouts (12.5 K/9)...Recorded his second career save and first since 2015 on May 2 at Iowa, pitching a scoreless 10th inning in an 8-7 win...Had 14.2 consecutive scoreless innings from April 7 (Game 2)-May 11, a stretch in which he allowed just eight hits and struck out 27 (16.6 K/9)...Had a 1.74 ERA (4 ER in 20.2 IP) through 17 relief appearances, before moving to the rotation for five starts from May 28-June 21...Had a 4.66 ERA (10 ER in 19.1 IP) in five starts, but six of those 10 runs came in his last start on June 21…had a 2.20 ERA (4 ER in 16.1 IP) through his first four starts...Moved back to the bullpen following his June 21, and made his remaining 19 appearances in relief, in which he posted a 3.93 ERA (15 ER in 34.1 IP) with 44 strikeouts (11.5 K/9).

Split season between Omaha (AAA) and Northwest Arkansas (AA), combining to make 25 starts (26 appearances)…posted a 6-12 record with a 5.56 ERA (77 ER in 124.2 IP)... Fanned 138 hitters in 124.2 innings (10.0 K/9)…his strikeout total ranked second among Royals farmhands, behind only Foster Griffin's 141... Recorded 93 strikeouts in just 76.0 innings at Omaha... Posted a 3-4 mark with a 3.88 ERA (23 ER in 53.1 IP) in his first 10 starts at Omaha, before going winless with a 11.95 ERA in five June outings…optioned to Northwest Arkansas on July 5...Matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts twice, both with Omaha…fanned a dozen in 6.0 innings in a 3-0 win over Round Rock on April 13 and did it again in 6.2 innings on May 1 vs. Oklahoma City, taking a no-decision in a 2-1 Chasers win...
