In 1999 graduated from Sin Il High School in Seoul, South Korea, where he played baseball.
2005
Spent the entire on the 60-day disabled list, first while recovering from 9/10/04 left shoulder surgery and then from a broken left hand suffered during his rehabilitation assignment...on 6/12 was sent to FSL Sarasota on a rehab assignment and in his first appearance there, on 6/13 vs Clearwater, suffered the broken left hand on a comebacker...didn't pitch again until the instructional league...following the season played for Estrellas in the Dominican Winter League (7g, 1-3, 4.22, 32ip, 25k)...agreed to participate in the inaugural World Baseball Classic, scheduled for March 2006, if selected to the Korean team.
2004
Spent most of the season at Class AAA Louisville...from 8/5-9/2 was on Louisville's disabled list with left shoulder tendinitis...began the season at Louisville and went 4-4, 4.89 in 10 starts there before he was promoted on 6/8, when Austin Kearns went on the disabled list...took the slot in the starting rotation vacated by disabled RHP Aaron Harang...from 6/8-6/20 made all 3 of his apps for the Reds...returned to Louisville on 6/22 and finished 4-4, 7.02 in his last 9 starts...also made a pair of starts for the Gulf Coast League Reds, on 8/25 at Red Sox and 8/28 at Pirates...for the Bats produced 7 quality starts...made his Reds debut with a 10-6 loss on 6/8 at Oak (3.1ip, 9h, 9r, 4er, 3bb, 0k, 1hr)...allowed 5 runs in the first inning, all unearned...became the first lefthander to start a game for Cin since John Bale on 9/18/03 at Pit, snapping a string of 66 consecutive starts by Reds righthanders...on 6/15 vs Tex received no decision in the 11-inning, 5-4 victory (6ip, 5h, 4er, 4bb, 6k, 2hr) and became the first Reds LH starter to pitch 6.0 innings since Bale did it in a 9-1 loss on 9/8/03 vs Pit...his 6-0 victory on 6/20 at StL (6ip, 3h, 0r, 3bb, 5k) was the first by a Reds lefthanded starter since Bale's 8-5 victory vs StL on 8/29/03, snapping a 4-game losing streak over 9 starts by LHP...on 9/10/04 had arthroscopic surgery to clean out the labrum in his left shoulder (Dr. Timothy Kremchek).
2003
Strong start (5-0, 3.34 ERA, .218 OPP BA, 22 G) offset by second half (1-2, 7.30, .320 OPP BA, 22 G)...Only the 15th pitcher in franchise history to start a season at 5-0...Made 10 straight scoreless appearances April 5-May 3 (15.1 IP, 9 H, 2 BB, 11 K)...Optioned to AAA Richmond Aug. 13, recalled Aug. 27 after John Smoltz was placed on 15-day DL...Went 1-2 with a 5.56 ERA in 3 starts for the R-Braves; all his games for major league club were relief appearances...did not pitch in the 2003 postseason.
2002
Spent entire season with AA Greenville with the exception of a one-start call-up to Atlanta April 23...Made major league debut in Atlanta April 23 vs. Diamondbacks, losing a 5-2 decision to Curt Schilling (6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K)...Finished 4th in the Southern League with 8.2 K/9.0 IP and 6th with a 3.25 ERA...Won 3 straight games April 12-28 (2.65 ERA, 17.0 IP, 5 ER, 5 BB, 19 K)...Lost 6 straight starts with a 6.58 ERA May 9-June 6 (26.0 IP, 9 ER)...Moved to bullpen June 12 and experienced immediate success, compiling a 2.27 ERA over 10 appearances (31.2 IP, 10 BB, 25 K)...Returned to rotation Aug. 3 and excelled over remainder of campaign, going 3-1 with a 1.14 ERA in 5 starts (31.2 IP, 4 ER, 30 K)...Fanned a season-high 9 in a 3-1 win vs. Huntsville Aug. 18 (7.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB)...Went 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA in final 3 starts (20.2 IP, 2 ER, 23 K)...Named the 15th-best prospect in Braves organization by Baseball America.
2001
While playing for Class A Myrtle Beach, Tied for 1st in the Carolina League with 28 starts, ranked 3rd with 13 wins, and 4th with a 3.00 ERA and 145 K...Rated as the 10th best prospect in the organization by Baseball America and was listed by Baseball Weekly as one of the team's 10-best...Named Pitcher of the Week April 6-11 after beating Winston-Salem Opening Night, 6-3 (6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 10 K) and firing 7.0 hitless innings (8 K) in a 7-0 victory at Salem...Went 4-0 with a 0.72 ERA in June, claiming Pitcher of the Week honors for June 21-27...Threw 7.0 scoreless innings (4 H, 3 BB, 2 K) in a 1-0 win vs. Lynchburg June 12...Compiled a 4-1 mark with a 1.09 ERA in 7 starts May 28-July 1, allowing 2 ER or less in each of those outings (49.1 IP, 35 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 13 BB, 34 K)...Turned in 8.0 shutout frames in a 9-3 win at Frederick June 26 (5 H, 6 K), which extended his scoreless streak to 26.0 innings, the longest in the Carolina League in '01...Won 4 straight starts July 17-August 1 (2.33 ERA, 27.0 IP, 17 H, 2 BB, 19 K).
2000
Went a combined 10-8 with a 3.68 ERA in 27 games (25 starts) with two A-ball clubs...Promoted from Macon to Myrtle Beach in mid-season, where he posted a 2.33 ERA and a 37-to-7 strikeout to walk ratio in 7 games (6 starts)...Ranked 5th in the Braves organization with 127 K.
1999
Rated by Baseball America as the Braves' 14th-best prospect...Ranked 2nd on the Class A Macon staff with starts, IP, and Ks...Went 5-4 with a 3.87 ERA as a starter (88.1 IP, 38 ER) ...Allowed only 7 ER in first 28.2 IP (2.20 ERA)...Fanned 9 in 5.0 IP in a 5-1 win over Savannah April 23 (4 H, 1 ER)...Permitted 2 ER or less in 5 consecutive starts July 22-Aug. 12 (28.1 IP, 7 ER, 28 K).

Began pro career with the Gulf Coast League Braves...Ranked 3rd in the circuit with a 1.49 ERA in 11 games (10 starts, 48.1 IP, 31 H, 8 ER, 56 K)...Went 4-3 in 12 starts with a 3.00 ERA for Macon...Averaged 1 strikeout per inning (60 IP).
