Xavier Edwards was acquired by Miami from the Tampa Bay Rays alongside RHP JT Chargois on Nov. 15, 2022. Enters as Miami’s No. 16 prospect by MLBPipeline. Was ranked No. 4 overall in the Rays’ system. Is the No. 10 2B prospect in the league...Played in 93 games for the Triple-A Durham Bulls in 2022, slashing .246/.328/.350 with five home runs, 19 doubles, 33 RBI and 48 runs scored...His five home runs marked the first home run hit by Edwards since June 27, 2019...Made 49 starts at second base (.978 fielding pct.), 19 at third base (.981 fielding pct.) and 20 at shortstop (.972 fielding pct.)...Has accrued the most innings in the Minors at second base (1683.0), then shortstop (695.1) and then third base (346.2).

2021

Hit .322/.375/.396 (162-for-503) with 18 2B, 8 3B, 1 HR, 43 RBI and 34 SB in 123 games between Class-A Fort Wayne and Class-A Lake Elsinore… led Padres minor leaguers in hits and tied for 2nd in steals…struck out 54 times in 561 PA, and his swing-and-miss rate was the lowest among all teenagers in the minors…named to the Midwest League midseason and postseason All-Star teams…named to the Padres Organizational All-Star Team by MLB. com…acquired by the Rays on Dec. 6 in the trade involving Hunter Renfroe and Tommy Pham… ranked by Baseball America as the No. 85 overall prospect in the minors following the season…was the No. 8 prospect in the Rays system…the publication also tabbed him as the Best Defensive Second Baseman in the MWL in its Best Tools survey.
