Edgar, Griffey send Mariners to ALCS

Twenty years ago today, the Mariners were taking on the Yankees in Game 5 of the ALDS. The series was tied at two and the M's were down, 5-4, in the bottom of the 11th inning -- right on the brink of postseason elimination.

But then Joey Cora led off the inning with a single, Ken Griffey Jr. singled (moving Cora to third) and the demi-god that is Edgar Martinez brought both runners home with a walk-off double down the left-field line:

Along with the hit and wonderful call by Dave Niehaus, one of the more indelible moments from the play had to be the crazed dogpile at home plate -- and Griffey's familiar smile sticking out from underneath it.
