Happy birthday to 'Sweet Caroline' songwriter Neil Diamond

Singer Neil Diamond turned 73 on Friday, but while he's known by most for his numerous chart-topping singles and Hall of Fame music career, baseball fans know him best as the author of "Sweet Caroline."

The song has become something of a Fenway Park tradition since 2002 -- so much so that Diamond has since performed it live at the ballpark a handful of times.

His most memorable performance, however, came this past season -- during the first Red Sox home game since the Boston Marathon bombing. You can watch that performance in the video up top.

But that wasn't the only stadium that heard "Sweet Caroline" in the aftermath of the tragedy. Fans across the country and all throughout MLB sang the song to show their support for Beantown -- everywhere from Atlanta, to ClevelandMiamiChicagoLos AngelesMinneapolisDenver, Seattle, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Arlington, Washington, Kansas City and New York.
