The Royals signed Alex Gordon's little brother to a Minor League contract

The Royals had better be prepared to rearrange the furniture in their clubhouse, because there's a possibility that they're going to need more room for activities now that they've signed Alex Gordon's brother.

Pitcher Derek Gordon -- younger brother of All-Star outfielder Alex -- made 14 appearances for the Kansas City T-Bones in independent ball last year. Now, he's gearing up for Royals Minor League camp at the end of the month. He'll be assigned to one of the club's Minor League affiliates at camp's end.

"Our coaches all have said that Derek was a guy who eventually was going to get a look [by a Major League team]," T-Bones general manager Chris Browne said by phone. "How cool would it be if someday Derek and Alex played on the same Royals team?"

Derek Gordon played collegiate ball at Park University outside Kansas City, where he went 24-8 with a 3.35 ERA.

The Royals don't need to stop here, either, because Alex and Derek only make up half of the Gordon team. Their brothers Eric and Brett (named after George Brett), played at Nebraska-Omaha and Park University respectively. The Gordons are basically a few adoptions away from being able to secede and start their own team.
