Full name JASON ROBERT HARDTKE... Single...Resides in San Jose, CA...Graduated from Leland High School in San Jose in 1990...During his junior year at Leland he led his baseball team to the California state title...His brother, Brad, played professionally, most recently in the Northern League...Enjoys golfing, sporting a 4-handicap.
2000
Began the season with the AAA Colorado Springs Sky Sox after being a spring training invitee with the Colorado Rockies...Appeared in 5 games with the Sky Sox, going 4 for 20 (.200), before being sold to the Hanshin Tigers of Japan's Central League on April 14. Spent the remainder of the season in Japan with Hanshin, hitting .272 (82-302) with 31 runs scored, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 4 homers and 27 RBI.
1999
Spent the season with the AAA Indianapolis Indians in the Cincinnati Reds organization and was the starting second baseman...Turned in his finest offensive season, hitting 37 doubles and equaling his career best with 12 homers...Was named to the Inernational League All-Star Team as the utility player...His .329 average finishing 2nd in the International League and his 37 doubles were tied for 5th in the IL.
1998
Played most of the season at AAA Iowa, hitting .288 with 11 homers in 91 games...Was with the major league club from 5/21 to 7/13 and appeared in 12 games with the Cubs...DH'd at Minnesota on 6/9, his only start during his big league stint...Tied his career high with 2 hits on 6/19 vs. Philadelphia.
1997
Enjoyed four stints with the Mets (6/19-7/3; 8/1-7; 8/25-27; 9/3-remainder) after opening the year at AAA Norfolk...Also had a stint at AA Binghamton.....Played in 21 major league games (9GS) at second base and one game at third base...In his .375 (12-32) in his 9 starts with 2 HR & 7 RBI...Hit his first major league homer on 8/1 vs. Houston off Ramon Garcia.
1996
Began the year at AA Binghamton of the Eastern League before shifting to AAA Norfolk on 5/16...Spent July on Norfolk's DL (sprained left knee ligament), but returned to the line-up in August...Finished out the IL season (was an IL All-Star) and the Mets recalled him on 9/8...Made his major league debut in a start at second base on 9/8 at Atlanta...In the contest, he recorded his first two hits, both doubles off Greg Maddux...The next day vs. Florida he drove in a career-high 3 runs, his first major league RBI's...Played in 18 errorless games at second base for NYM.
1995
The Mets selected him from the San Diego organization in the Rule V draft the previous December...At AA Binghamton, he led the Eastern League with a career-high 42 doubles and ranked 5th with 50 extra base hits...Promoted to AAA Norfolk for the playoffs.
1994
Tore a knee ligament in his left knee and went on the DL from 5/27-7/20...He played in 79 games between AA Wichita and A Rancho Cucamonga.
1993
At A Rancho Cucamonga he ranked among league leaders with 523 at bats (1st), 167 hits (3rd), 38 doubles (3rd), 252 total bases (4th), 56 extra base hits (4th), 98 runs (5th), 7 triples (T5th) and a .319 average (8th)...His average was the best among Single A switch-hitters.
1992
Opened the season at A Kinston in the Indians organization and manager Dave Keller before being traded to San Diego in exchange for Thomas Howard on 4/15...Assigned to A Waterloo and converted to second base and turned in an all-star season in the Midwest League...Led the league with one strikeout every 13.9 at bats...Also ranked among league leaders in average (.304, T4th) and his .448 slugging % was T6th.
1991
Was a South Atlantic League All-Star in his final full season in the Indians organization...Led the SAL with 155 hits and finished among league leaders with 104 runs scored (T1st), 534 at bats (2nd), 233 total bases (4th) and 81 RBI (5th)...Stole a career-high 23 bases as he appeared in 111 games at SS and 20 at 2B...Was also T5th in walks (75) and 2nd in games (139).
